Clogged pre cats and evap code

So iam tring to sell my maxima but now iam pulling codes for clogged pre cats and a evap code. First off what should i do about the pre cats. Would gutting them cause the code to persist? And the guy from autozone didnt give me the code but said it had something to do with the evap? Some assistance would be great.

You really should get the exact codes, but I should be able to help some. If you have the code for 'low efficiency' (there is no 'clogged' code) on the precats, gutting them won't help. You can wire in an O2 simulator(plenty of threads about this) or you can try the antifouler option(also multiple threads) to take the sensors out of the direct stream. The most expensive route would be to replace the precats obviously. I've seen a lot of positive comments on the eastern precats. I believe people purchase them from rockauto. BTW, there are separate codes for front and rear precat efficiencies. Again, have AZ write the codes down for you.

As far as the evap code, you're shooting in the dark with that one. It could be as simple as a little vaseline on the gas cap oring to seal better or you could need an evap canister or anything in between. That code is going to require some diag.

Another option is to be honest with the buyer and let them take care of the repairs. It may cost you a couple few off the sale price but it may be worth the hassle and time you save.
