Do both cooling fans normally cycle when car is on and auto is selected on heater?

I replaced my fans months ago with an aftermarket shroud/motor setup. I noticed after I did this that both of my cooling fans seem to be on when my heater is set to automatic and 72 degrees. I wasn't sure if this was normal or not, ambient is 44 right now so it certainly shouldn't be running the a/c compressor.

This is a 2000 maxima GLE with auto climate control (which I assume they all have).

Is this normal? Or are these aftermarket fans wired goofy? I don't recommend them FYI. They are loud and poorly balanced. My shroud was broken so I had little choice.

Thanks guys, just getting the ole' girl ready for winter.

Both radiator fans ALWAYS run at the same time - no exceptions.

The a/c compressor will run when you have the AUTO button pressed, and when you have the a/c running, the radiator fans will run. But the ambient temperature plays a part. The compressor should not run when the temperature hits freezing. I'm not sure of the exact temperature it shuts off at, but I think its around 40 F. In the fall and winter (and spring), use the ECONOMY setting.

Thanks Dennis. I haven't had this car all that long and I must have not been paying close enough attention before I replaced the fans. Good to know it's working properly!

yes the only difference is High speed or Low speed, our fans are 2 speed setup. Hence 4 wires into each.
