Thule rack and Fit kit help?!

So the wife went ahead and got the full Thule set up for my 5th gen and I can't seem to figure out the fit kit. Look at the following pic. Is the clamp sitting in the right spot? When I went with the exact width of 39 1/4 inches it pushes the clamp out too much. When I shortened it this is house it sits.

Then when I tighten it, it picks the entire foot up. Look.

Anybody have any ideas? The fit kit is #2077. It says 2000-Maxima.

I have the same kit on my car. Its supposed to sit way lower, as in the metal part is supposed to go over the seal of the door. The rubber pad is supposed to sit closer to the edge of the roof too. I don't have pictures because its not installed right now.

The fitment is really precise, every part of that kit that touches the car is made to practically hug your vehicle. Widen the brackets and try it again.

Oh and each one of the rubber pads and the brackets are meant to sit in a specified corner of the vehicle at a very specific distance from the front/rear windshield etc (i.e. you can't interchange left/right/front/rear). I would call thule if you don't have these instructions with you because they will make the install much easier and its also a good way to ensure you don't damage anything.

I had the center at 39 1/4 per the instructions. The pads listed as the fronts are installed but I can't figure out where the fit kit feet fit in the sides. I tried moving them down but they hold the door open a bit when I try to close the door.

That means there's something wrong with the placement, the doors should obviously close properly when this thing is installed. Try moving it back and forth and find the spot where its not in the way of the doors.

Also many Thule dealers will give you tips on installing this stuff if you take it to them, they may even install it for you. I would suggest that if you're still having trouble with the install.

I got it. I guess my hands work faster then my brain. I just laid the clamps on top of the rubber seals. Took my measurements and tightened them like crazy. They are on tight. One of the clips for my fairing is missing a section. I will get with the Rackattack tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Was just on the highway doing 80 for around 30 minutes with the sunroof open. The fairing makes a big diff. Not noisy at all.

I don't have the fairing but you're right you can drive high speed with it loaded no problem. I have mine set up to hold 4 bikes and it works great.
