Ghost SES Code

Anyone ever have the SES light on but no codes? I have a OBDII reader that's pulled other codes in the past but doesn't read anything in this case. I clear the light and then drive a few more miles and it pops back on but is blank again. Is it time to get the electrical tape out and just cover it up or is there a fix ?

So there are no codes or pending codes? My reader lists them seperately.
That is interesting though.

Is there any way to check pending codes? I'm sure there's one there.

i've never heard of the cel coming on without actual codes registering. I'm thinking your scanner is messed up or can't communicate with the car for some reason. Did you try manual reading the codes with the gas pedal?

You could take the car to the local parts store and have them read the codes and see what their reader shows.

My OBDII scanner is fine as it works on my other vehicles. I'll try the manual way of pulling the code with the gas pedal. I just hadn't done that in years and was lazy I guess.

That's odd. I've never heard of a "ghost" light that has no actual code behind it. Although, my Odyssey has had a CEL on-and-off for the past week or so and I haven't had a chance to scan it when it was actually on.

ECU perhaps? Although I won't jump to that conclusion just yet. Try the manual way of reading the code(s) and get back to us.

Well this just happened to me earlier today. Changed my rear O2 sensors yesterday and cleared the P0037/38 codes, passed inspection and drove about 70 miles, then the light came on but had no codes present.

Light came on today after clearing it a few days ago. The OBDII scanner didn't pick up any codes but with the manual gas pedal method, I got 10 4 5 5 for the flashes. I looked around but couldn't find if this translates to a P code? any thoughts?

Should be IIRC, fast pulses then slow pulses, or the other way around. But they should equal 2 flash sequences, not 4. Then the cycle repeats itself.

ie. 6 fast flashes, and 2 slow flashes would equal "0602"
ie. 14 fast flashes, and 4 slow flashes would equal "1404"

I could have this improper though, I've had my OBD2 for a long while now haven't done the old way for some time.

^ Methinks either the scanner or the OBD2 connection is bad or something.

If your scanner can do real-time monitoring, enter that stage and that should tell you if the ECU, OBD2 port and scanner are co-operating with each other, of if there is an issue.
