what are some of the cool things you've discovered about your 5th gen?

After two years of owning my 5th gen, yesterday I discovered that with the cruise control on and SET, if you press and hold ACCL RES button, the car will automatically speed up ( without pressing the gas pedal). once you let go of the button, it will maintain the speed at which you let go of the button. This might not be new to others but I had no idea it was built into the cruise control. I was aware speed up/down button is build into some of the newer cars and thought that was cool, little did i know our cars have it too

so what are some of the cool things you've discovered?

lol

press it 5 times, you go up about 5MPH... :-)

And also, when you tap the brakes and CC goes off, push the same button again and you will RESume the speed you were at.

That the leather sux ****. Other than that, I discovered that I like my AE a LOT more than I thought I would. It's really a pleasant car to drive and it fits me very well. The motor is very smooth, but I do need to open it up a bit so I can actually HEAR it. It's like driving a Lexus right now it's so quiet!

I always thought ACCL RES meant accelerator reset... as in reset it back to the speed it was previously set at.

Other than some wear marks on the left side of the lower bolster on my driver's seat, it's in really great shape. Still soft and supple, and not dried out in one bit.

I didn't know that until my second year of driving about cars either. My mom has been driving for over 30 years and she didn't know about it until I told her.

Most people aren't aware of it.

As for things I didn't know feature wise, I found out last year that you can deactivate/activate the Horn BEEP when Locking the car by simply holding the LOCK & UNLOCK buttons for 2 seconds on the fab.

Actually, it's funny because it's written on the back of the key fab lolz. But who reads that!!

I actually noticed that the first time I test drove my Max before I bought it.

But yeah, some things like that people don't pick up on and notice. It's all good thou.

This was a Central Oregon car, so the black car with black leather got baked by the sun and is thus in not so good shape. Actually, it's not even the leather that's very bad so much as it's all the vinyl inserts that are going bad. I wonder how much it owuld cost to repair those vinyl inserts or if it would just be cheaper to get some Katzkins fronts in black perforated leather...

You can roll down the windows from outside the car just by holding down the unlock button on the key fob, or by putting the key in the door and holding it to the right for a few seconds.

The 5th gen's seats are junk, period. Not hardly even real leather. Very chinsy.

And the 99, 00, 01 maxima's omitted the AUTO window down feature, they brought it back in 02.

Effing silly, I has 01, and was disappointed to find I don't have that feature, always liked it on my '97

Do you mean the auto window down with the key? Haven't tried it so I don't know. It obviously has the auto down on the door button.

If you have auto down on the fab it will also work with the key. It's unconfirmed, but I think you might be able to hold the key in the lock position or something and make them go back up, I dunno, as my car doesn't have this feature. Perhaps I'm mixing upt he Maxima nad the G though.

If your using the key fob, you can only make the front windows go down by holding the unlock button. If you use the key in the door you can put them up (holding lock), and down by holding unlock. It is completely stupid that they won't go up using the fob, but it doesn't bother me that it doesnt mak the back ones go down, since they don't go all the way anyway.

Didn't realize that you could turn off overdrive on the AT until after about 3 years of ownership...not really "cool", but it did take me 3yrs to come across it. Even less "cool" because I've never found a need to use it since.

My leather is actually still in mint condition, although I have family in the back seat now -_-, what leather seats are good quality that I can swap in down the road?

To be fair, my statement overlooks most chinsy leathers, what I suppose I mean more specifically, is that in comparison to previous years, the 5th gen uses very cheap leather, with a lot of vinyl (fake) pieces tied in. Also, the dye they use to colour it isn't very good, and comes off over time.

Infiniti seats are made to a higher standard, and they mount up no issues. Another option would be fitting some G35 seats in, they're super nice and very high quality.

God if I could find some G seats or some black I30/I35 seats, that would be so awesome. The G seats especially. I very much like those ones.

Nice to roll down your windows from 100m away when its 90F to cool it off in there. Told one of my coworkers about that last year who has an 04 Quest. Says nothing about that in either owners manual.

Just use some leather contditioner at least once a year. And don't use the seat heaters unless you have to.

I'll have to try the CC thing sometime if I can remember it. So busy shifting from 2 to 4 and 6 to 4 (like you cant on a sequential autoshift) that I didn't notice it.

if the car is running and in gear(auto) the doors will not lock if one of the door(s) is ajar, may be common but I still didn't know and thought it was cool

Not Maxima specific, but if you've ever driven a rental car and wondered what side the gas tank is on... you can look at the fuel gauge. The arrow points to which side.

I learned that last year and felt like a complete idiot since...

Cool things Ive learned about my car:

  • I can make U-Turns just as well as my buddies 3/4 ton truck
  • The Parking brake doubles as a toy on snow
  • The Passenger side window does wonders to confuse passengers (and entertain me)
  • The rear brake caliper (when stuck) doubles as a hand warmer
  • The hood dances (trippy)
  • You can fit two mountain bikes in the trunk
  • The horn is very stealthy, you can honk it and no one knows its you because they are all looking for a ****ty car

I found this out from a guy a the meetups last summer. I hate that horn beep when locking the car.

Also, for those that didn't know, if you hold the unlock button down the windows in the front roll down.

When I bought my car the leather was in top shape. I actually think the previous owner re-upholstered it because the leather seems to be of higher quality that the leather in the back seats.

I owned the car for an entire year before I realized there was little button on the lower left side near the drivers side under the steering wheel that actually HEATS the steering wheel.....wish I had knew that the previous winter

The last and best thing I discovered is how freakin FAST the car is!!!
