Re: why would the max get AWD?...

I 100% agree. If the Max gets even bigger with RWD, I'm out. I drive in too much snow and watch Lincoln's and Q's doing donuts on ice to even consider a bloated RWD Max. Now AWD? I'd think about it.

Redesigned "2003" Max will come out likely next winter. Will be based on the Altima platform although it will be larger thus fall into the "full-sized" category (Slightly larger than an Avalon). Will use a variation of the Altima's suspension, but will gain some Q level components. A variation of the new Max will have a version of the Q45's V8 (ala Altima 2.5-3.5/Max 3.5-4.5). AWD remains a possibility but, if offered, may be 1 of those dreaded "late availability" options (hopefully an SE-R type option). Nissan is going to be more aggressive than they have been in the past. That is part of the Ghosn revival plan.
As for the G35, I got my brouchure, it lists 260 HP, 260 ft/lbs torque. G35 is based on XVL concept car. New Skyline, G35 & New Z all share this new platform. This is supposed to be a 3-series beater. G35 2-door, 6-speed versions come later as does AWD somewhere down the line.
This is what I've been able to squeeze out of my source, and they have not been wrong yet.
I agree with most of what your saying, But, (not to start an arguement, Just to voice oppion) I Understand that everyone has statements from Mags. that are ALL differant. I really dont think Nissan would do a redesigning of a car in 2003 that they have Just redesigned (eq. 2000&2001 vs 2002) another thing is that redesigning a car cost dough, even a facelift (EQ.2002 maxima) that nissan doesn't have. One last reason is that they (Nissan) have redesigned the Maxima every 5 Years on the dot. Why would they change that? Granted Renult took over Nissan and Granted Nissan Maxima's now dont really have a class to be put in but why 2 years earlier then normal? after 21 years of doing the same thing?
Stereodude- The salesmen dont know, But the ***. Sales Managers would, and I haven't even heard of the "new maxima" yet conceding that I knew about the 3.5 in the new maxima back in 2000 When at that time was suppose to have 280+ HP. Im not trying to be a **** but I really want people to see my point as to why I believe what I believe.

How do you explain this press release from Nissan then? http://www.nissannews.com/corporate/...927110025.html Try as you might I don't think you can sit around and tell me Nissan released a press release of lies. If you think about it Nissan has to redo the Maxima ASAP. They can't keep selling two cars in the same market segment (Altima and Maxima).

Yes, extraordinary times require extraordinary measures. The Altima steps on the Maxima's toes. The Altima is a little bigger than the Maxima. The Max was given the 255hp motor with the 6 speed (Altima only comes with a 5-speed) to keep the Maxima on life support until the redesign. Nissan lowered the Max sell target from 180,000 to 80,000 units per yer because Nissan expects the Altima to steal sales. The Max must be redesigned and soon.

That's exactly what I believe too....but I guess we'll have to wait for the real metal to see where Nissan wants to position the Max.

Feb 2002 Motor Trend reports coupe version in G35 to have 290 horse version of the 3.5 and the sedan is to have the a 260 horse version of the 3.5 VQ. Whats the chance Nissan/Infiniti will place a 6 spd in the coupe? JAKE02

With Acura dropping a 6 speed into the 2003 CL-S, I think the G35 coupe definitely gets the 6 speed.

I don't think Infiniti has their goal set on the CLS. They are looking for BMW and Lexus as their target. I think Acura should join the fray and offer a RWD sport sedan. Now that would be some interesting competition.
