Manual conversion ideas

Hay guys

I own an aussie spec 6th generation maxima. There is really no difference between the American spec 6th gen and aus spec in mechanical areas. I'm currently running the exact same engine and exact same 4sp auto box as the American model. I think the aus spec has slightly different chassis. They never made a manual in the Australian Maximas. So is a manual conversion possible for my car.? What parts would I need for the conversion? Thought I'd get more response in the 5th gen section.

Cheers kurt

A Manual conversion is definitely possible. The parts exist, though it seems you would have to get the parts shipped from the States for it to be possible. I've done a few auto to manual swaps before, but never on a Maxima, but it's all mostly the same.

You will need the following (plus some other odds and ends I may miss):
Manual Trans
Manual Trans ECU
Clutch
Manual Trans Flywheel
Clutch Master Cylinder
Clutch Slave Cylinder
Manual Trans Clutch and Brake Pedal Assembly
Shift Linkage
All necessary and relevant clutch lines (including hard lines)
Manual Transmission Gauge Cluster
Manual Transmission Center Console Shift Area Garnish

Not sure if the speed sensors are different between auto and manual transmissions, but if they are then you will need to either buy them new or make sure they come with the transmission when you get it.

I'm sure I'm missing at least a couple pieces, but that's a good start at the least.

Good call on that one. The part numbers listed for Auto vs. Manual Axles are indeed different. And as far as I can work out the mounts are also different, but I didn't thoroughly look into that.

My advise id look at the all motor section it has been covered many times also look for the member named AACKSHUN he works for a nissan recycler and has donr the swap himself and can be of really good help on this subject! and No the axles are not the same for a auto or a 5mt and 6mt is different from both of those.

it is a very easy swap as long as tou have the parts Tranny,Clutch,FW,Hardware,Shifter assy and cable,Axles and starter also the 6mt trans mout is completly different from the AT and 5mt you need to get the whole mounting assembly.

Only thing I'm worried about is that has this been done on a 6th gen maxima? Plus I won't be able to get a manual ecu cause I don't know if the American ecu is the same as the Aussie one. If it is do they just swap over?

other than the body it looks the same under the hood... as far as ECU and axle, just get the ECU from your local junkyard and axle from a parts store.... Hopefully my thread will help out a lot as i did the 6MT swap also, Car-parts.com and a donor or 5.5 part out in the classifieds is always good

you dont have to swap over ECU it will work without it but you will have a SES/CEL for transmission codes

As long as it won't affect anything or how it drives if it's just a cel I
Wont swap the ecu. I was told u can still use the auto cluster Aswell.? I'm just worried the engine won't have the bolts for the flywheel cause they never made manual Maximas in aus.

aww i gotcha... it has no effect on performance, i guess you will have to live with the CEL... good thing with keeping the auto is you wont need to press in on the clutch to turn the car on.... mind taking a pic of the motor mount by where your intake is???
