Help!!! Service Engine Light on after CAI Install--------------
Help!!! Service Engine Light on after CAI Install--------------
After I put on the PR CAI last week, the engine light has come on twice already. The first time, I disconnected the battery for an hour, then it was fine for one day, today the engine light came back on again. What can I do ???
Thanks
Thanks

may be a stupid question, but have you checked and rechecked all the connections??? I only ask b/c I got the check engine light as well, but I had left a tiny plug unconnected and that was throwing my light on. On a side night, my car never shifted better when I forgot to plug that thing in ... ahhh, I need VB recal!
Seriously ... check all the connections, and if they are all tight and sound, unhook the battery overnight. Light comes back on, you have a problem. Take it somewhere you can have it connected to a scan tool to extract the trouble code.

I heard you have to go back to the dealer to have the ECU reprogrammed it because Nissan has back up memory???
Thanks

sounds like you unhooked the tranny dropping resistor that sits on the strut tower.
Re: Re: Re: Help!!! Service Engine Light on after CAI Install--------------
Here in lies the problem. My experience with dealers is that since you have modified it, they will not work on it. I'm out of warranty and they still won't work on it. I have the same problem with the MIL. I am getting a MAF code popping up. I am not totally sure what the problem is yet, but im narrowing it down to vaccuum lines being the wrong size. My induction is custom though, not through stillen or anybody else.
damn my car sounds ****ed off under WOT!

I had the same prob your having after my Cai install. I got a "O2 in Bank1 is running lean". I had them reset it but it still came back. I'm waiting on my O2 sensors from DaveB..

the only 'real' way is with a scan tool: www.obd-2.com

Thanks

Hmmmmmm....... so many bank 2 sensor 1 errors.
Did you know that Swirl Valve Controller DTC number is same as the generic Bank 2 Sensor 1 number? Something like 1130.
Maybe you didn't hook up one of your vacuum lines correctly (meaning it could be pinched).
Or maybe I don't know what I'm talking about and talking out of my other end.
Not like I've experienced this or anything.

BTW, since they cleared the code, it has not come back on..should I replace it anyway???
Thanks

No don't replace it.. The code I got with the scanner said that my 02 sensor in bank 1 was running lean. That usually means that the sensor is going bad.. I got a Cali.. 5thGen

Anyway, I will keep on eyes on it, thanks guys!!
ok ok ok....As another person has said, "I had them reset the computer, but the same code came back." Did you fix the problem? Cause the DTC codes will keep coming up if you don't fix it. Depending on your year and emissions, you have a bank one and two o2 sensor. These are called "upstream egos". The other(s), is called a "downstream" or cat monitor. We call these HEGOS. The downstream sensor only monitors the catylitic converter operation, and does not run on a switching voltage. The upstreams on the other hand "switch" in voltage. These upstream o2 sensors relay to the pcm how much o2 is in the exhaust, thus determining how rich or lean the car is running. If you are getting a bank 1 lean and not bank 2, it is probably just the upstream bank 1 oxygen sensor. If you had both banks running that way, it could be both sensors, or an itake leak. There can be other problems than the two I just mentioned, but you are getting into high performance, or other than stock. Scanners are great tools, but the code you get does not necessarily mean that is what's wrong with the car. That is why the mechanics can charge so much because they know all about the diagnosis process.
Think about this. Have any of you that have the CAI installed or any other devices besides a supercharger, that let more air into the throttle body? Did you ever notice that once in a while the exhaust pops, like its running rich? What happens is the computer is using the same amount of fuel for a starting point. The o2's send a reading that the car is running lean. At that point the computer compensates for that adding fuel, so you get a slightly rich run, especially under WOT. My max dips down into the mid 11's for A/F ratio on the dyno under WOT. If i could just raise it up to another point I would be making probably about 10 more hp.
anyway

i'm sure you don't have this issue w/ a CAI, but i have this sensor that doesn't plug into anything (i believe it was the air temp sensor that was part of the stock airbox), but since i removed all parts of the stock airbox, i have it zip tied to another cable in the engine bay. if anyone else knows different, please post.
