Like the title says i am buying a used automatic transmission and i have no idea what to look for. Also what do you advise doing after purchase i.e. changing seals or fluid.

Drop the pan prior to purchase if possible. there are two circular magnets in the pan, they should be free of metal shavings PREFERABLY. If not hopefully it is minimal. From there you want to ensure that the trans fluid that is in the pan is pink and doesnt not have a burnt smell or dark milky color. You will want to change your rear main seal while in there, as well as the trans pan gasket and filter.
