Transmission Sensor question

I have seen a few posts about this on various sites but I wanted to confirm it here:

2000 Maxima SE
Automatic - 150K

For a long time now I have had sporadic transmission problems. It cannot be duplicated when I take it to the shop... It tends to act up more when it is hot outside.

My check engine light is on, occasionally my OD light flashes or blinks on startup, I know to cut it off and cut it back on as typically when this flashes it means the transmission issue will happen.

The issue - It can happen a few minutes after startup but typically after I have been driving it awhile. It will just all of the sudden quick excelling, like it is in neutral. Typically it is going from 2nd to 3rd. I then have to pull off the road, cut it off, and cut it back on. Sometimes it does it 2/3 times in a row, sometimes it won't happen again for a few hours.

I saw on a site that it a revolution speed sensor that needed to be replaced. Nissan part 31935-8E006 - but when I googled it, a parts store didn't have my maxima listed as being compatible.

I'm wondering if it is called the revolution speed sensor, transmission speed sensor, or what the sensor is actually called that I need so that I can get the part. Also, if it is located near the driver side wheel? There were conflicting posts about that as well.

I would like to have as much info as possible and the part when I take it to my mechanic as up until this point, he has been unable to duplicate the issue in order to diagnose it.

Thanks in advance,
Ashley

The part number you posted is for the 2004 & newer maximas. The one for your car is 31935-8E002 (fits 99 though 02).

I don't know if that part is causing your problem. It could also be the shift solenoids in the transmission. The original ones had a problem and Nissan issued a service bulletin, NTB00-039d. Link to the bulletin:
