Im not bashing the AE's or anything...but whats so great about the AE's?...everyone is so excited about it including people who don't even own maxima's...wow a dimming mirror and volume controls on the steering wheel which would be virtually useless to some people who will customize their mobiletronics...
the extra 5 hp....you wont even feel an extra 5hp unless its 5 hp at the wheels which it isn't...and the body kit?...looks ok...but i prefer stillens kit because it has a sharper look to it...the round look on the AE kit just isnt my taste...i dunno...is the AE just overhyped?...someone enlighten me here

My take

I have a few pictures on my site.

For me it was the ultimate package, it offered limited slip, 17" rims, body kit but wasn't priced out of this world. I thought I would never own a black car but the anniversary changed my mind. The car in black with the tinted rims and body kit took my breathe away and was something that I had to have.

It offers a touch of class but still kicks butt.

Re: My take

I haven't seen one in person, and pictures just don't show well enough. I know the rims aren't bright silver chrome. Are they tinted the same color as the guages? Are they shiny like chrome, but tinted a color, or do they have a similar finish to the guages?

why is the center cap still the normal color, not like the rest of the wheel, the contrast is not pretty.

I agree...... But

I think those bronze head lights are awesome!... The engine cover and the door sills are not bad either... But the only thing that I would consider GREAT about the AE is the viscous Limited Slip Differential.

If I was even thinking about forking out the cash for a maxima AE, and wanted a automatic... I would just buy the Infinity i30t... it goes for about 30K and it has the LSD and all the AE 's features plus HID lights, rear shade.. and you would get the 4yr warranty and way better service than most people get at Nissan. plus it looks better IMO.

It's a polished finish with a slight tint, depends on the angle you are looking at because they catch the light different ways.

I wanted to trade my GXE in for one, but I was too upside down. I like the cosmetic upgrades and the limited slip. I decided to add some of the cosmetic stuff to my 2000 GXE. It doesn't look an AE, but it has a nicer look to it. I recently added the AE mats, AE chrome kick plates and I've ordered the AE auto shifter. (all from South Point Nissan) Other people are going all out and ordering the pedals, engine cover, headlamps, and body kit.

Is the auto shifter and pedal set available now? Or, is Dave just taking orders?

He finally got the part number for the shifter and is now taking orders for that. The pedal set... I'm not sure about that. I'm not buying that. I'm only going for the kick plates, mats, and shifter. Maybe I'll change my mind later.

Main reason for performance is the VLSD!

I also prefer the body kit to the Stillen.

only to a point...the steering wheel controls would be virtually useless if you customized your mobiletronics....if you did anything with audio and video you have to replace your whole bose system...and even if you replaced just the woofer you still have to use a high-low convertor so it comes out funky sometimes...

the only important update i see on the AE is the LSD

im too much of an importhead to see any attraction...the stock rims(even tho they look pretty nice)?? i would replace them...that ugly muffler from I30? i would replace it...the bronze headlights? uhhh i would keep those :P (at least until the skyline conversion)
ok i cant have the LSD big woop...i still love my machine and it'll still woop some of those stank honduhs

you see where im headed?...why such a big fuss over stuff thats eventually going to be replaced? (well at least for me)

don't bash me for not having the same taste as yours now guys=P

yo, t-master-b agrees w/ pimp on this one.
the LSD is a good thing to have (especially if you be trippin oh wait that's a different kind of LSD) but the rest seems kind of silly to fork out all that extra cash for. (gold badging, tinted wheels...?)

the maxima is a great car for $20k
for $30k, i might start thinking about something different.

I might have to agree. I could pay a few dollars for some of the goodies and end up with practically an AE. Most likely cheaper, too.

I would have thought they would have gone all out for the 20th anniversary. Something so unique you pretty much had to buy one to reap the benefits. I'm not complaining too much: I love the AE goodies for my 2K.

ALL TIRE & RIM EXPERTS...I need help!!!

Before I go back to the tuner shop, let me ask my fellow drivers this question.!!

Has anyone ever ran a set of tires on different wheel offsets on a Y2K max or any other max?

Example, I want to get 18x8 inch rims w/40mm offset (235/45/18) (Volk AV3's) on the front and 18x8.5 inch rims w/ 42mm offset (245/45/18 or 245/40/18) on the back (Volk AV3's).
Although the car will pull from the front wheels, I can see their's a little more wheel-well space in the rear, so i want to just widen the track a tad.

Other than uneven tire wear (Not worried!!) will I experience bad aligment, other problems, etc.....?

Also, I'm going to probibly use the H&R springs to lower the car slightly because the stillen aero kit has been ordered and without the car being lowered, the wheel-well gap will look funny with the kit on it. I want it to look flush fitted.

Give me your opinions, quickly!! Any pictures are also welcome... Thanks teammates!

Re: rearview

Why is it a pain? I'm considering one for my car. Is it slow to adjust? Details please.

Enjoy the AE and Enjoy its parts boyz, its not gonna last long. With the limited production I'm sure Nissan has a Limit on the production of the parts too, so get your hands on em while U can. personally I like the AE look. The Body kit feels solid not plastic like Stillens (no offence KEV), for less then $1000 U can have pritty much everything off the AE minus the bodykit and rims, and still come out cheaper, Unless U get a super deal on the car from a dealer. Hype or not, Its Unique and People pay to be Unique, If I have the money Why not?

My wife and I love our 2k1 AE for a bunch of reasons:
- blue - this is an awesome color and very rare
- i got all of the mods that i could have cared for, didn't have to do the research, didn't have to pay to get them installed, and all are backed by the factory warranty
- the frost interior with the perforated seats are very comfy and look great
- all of the AE trim parts
