Replacing 02 maxima headlights to 00 maxima headlights, question?

I really hate my headlights on my Maxii, the chrome housing is really turning me down about my car.

I have been seeing the 2000 maxima black housing headlights and I really like them, I was wondering if those are compatible in my car...

http://www.nissanmaximaheadlight.com...3811500121.jpg

Is there going to be a re wiring part in this installation?
What kind of HID bulbs does it need?

If anyone can give me the most information about this because Im ready to buy these headlights now, thanks.

Any information or advice will be most appreciated.

Another vote: don't do it. You will lose major lighting of the road in the process.

If you want, you can modify your housings to make them black. It's been done many times here on the board. You need an oven, some paint and some patience.

2000-01 aren't HID lights... You will loose in visibility and loose the great HID look from the outside.

My vote:

Sell your 02-03 headlights, use the money to get 00-01 OEM and you will have more than enough money to do full retrofit with good projectors. You'll never regret it! since you already don't care about the aesthatic look of the 02-03 OEM anyway.

Heck depending on the condition on your OEM lights, I'll swap you with 00-01 OEM style headlights retrofitted with HID projectors if you are interested.

Don't do it, there are people that have 00-01 light and desperately search for 02-03 lights to do a conversion. That should say something.

There are major wiring differences between the 2000/01 and the 2002/03 headlights. It can be done, but I would try and talk you out of it rather than say go ahead. It's not worth it IMO.

lol I agree with most of the replies here, if you want to downgrade your headlights from HID's to ugly halogens then by all means go for it.. but in my opinion, you could at least buy some black ebay headlights or paint the headlights black like some of the others recommended

just paint them. I can do it for you if you mail them to me.

If not I will happily buy your headlights from you and with the money you can buy 2k and 2k1 lights and put HIDs from ddm in them and still have money left over for pizza and beer.

I have read all the replies on my thread, I dont want to go through the process of baking my headlights and trying to paint them because I'm too lazy to do that and I want to mess anything up.

TBH, the headlights i have now barely give out any light with HIDs in them. I have seen other maxiis out in my town with the headlights i want with 6K HIDs and they look amazing.

I figured that there will be major wiring but im willing to do what it takes to make this happen.

I just want something better than my headlights now and that is black. Chrome does not look good with white IMO

I have a 2002 and the previous owner replaced the factory headlights with ones from a 2000 Maxima. I didn't like them, and he did a pathetic job of wiring them. I couldn't find a reasonably priced set of factory headlights, so I actually went with an aftermarket Eagle Eyes set (without the projector) but with black housing and I think they look brilliant. The wiring wasn't too difficult either, and it took me about 30 minutes to finish both of them.

I'll try to get pictures so you have something to reference, and draw up a diagram for you.

Don't be mistaken though, while this isn't really all that hard, my vote would still be don't do it.

The seller I purchased from doesn't have the black one's listed anymore, but here's the chrome one's to give you an idea of the cost.

You'll do major rewiring, but you're too lazy to put them in an oven and bake them.

i didn't do a really good job on painting them and had to remove the smaller lenses on the turn signal and driving light as a result of that.. but all in all i think they turned out decent for being my first time trying any type of headlight modification

dude i feel the same way as you do!!

i understand the 2002-03 hid's produce a great output that most ppl love, but i hate my lights as well, there is so much hazing and cloudiness that the light doesn't even go through properly and it makes my car look so old.

ive decided that i also like the lights you posted up, and a 6000k 35w hid kit from ddmtuning will put me exactly where i want to be. i think they will look great on my car, and it will be a clean and clear lens, finally!.

i understand the rewiring, no biggie for me at all. i do understand that there is major fitment issues with these ebay lights cause there is a gap on the bottom and they dont line up well and so on, i think with a drill, a few washers, and a heatgun i will line these babies right up.
not to mention the cheap seal around the lights, letting water in and condensation. i will silicone the complete edges before i even install them!!
i've thought it through and when i get a chance i will get these lights, and no my stockers are not for sale, i will keep them for backups, no dibs.

If hazing is a problem, cut polish them. Most will come out by hand. Are you sure your lights are properly alligned? I dont see how the stock HID's could be worse than a halogen bulb... You could save yourself $$$ if you baked them, cutpolished inside and out, and painted black yourself. You would also feel good about it cuz you made yourself a nice custom set of headlights.

The only things that go into ovens are cookies and cakes...I aint risking it just to pop some seals off when i can just buy new ones

I just did mine.. looks wicked! @170??? Lol ur not risking anything unless ur an idiot and leave them in there for a hour..... throw em in there and check every 2 mins.. they just need to get a little warm.. or you could use a heat gun or leave them in the sun for a few hours on a hot day..

You could use a heat gun to heat the headlamp sealant and a flathead screwdriver to pry them open. Takes longer and don't let the heat sit too long in one spot, you'll warp the headlight plastic.

Listen to MSU, and see his thread here http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...fit-build.html

The cheap method to restore headlights is get a headlight restore kit. Supply the drill and some painters masking tape. Done. Used it on my headlamp, came out great. Lightly polish using some wax to seal the headlights after polishing with the drill.

For christs sakes, grow a pair. It's a freaking oven around 170ish degrees, not some furnace in a nuclear power plant.

Here's that picture of my Silver 02 with the black housing Eagle Eyes non-projector headlights.

I don't have the halos wired up, because I'm not a big fan of halos (I think they look tacky on most cars). The light output is decent. It's not HID bright, but it's still respectable and lights up the road well. And they look pretty factory. I've got some 8000k 100W lights for the low beam, 5500k 80W for the high beam, Silverstars for the front turn signals, 3000k 55W for the fogs. I'll take a night shot if you want, but I figured the whole point was to see how the headlights looked on the car. Lol.

If it's purely about the housing and not aesthetics then you should just sand the lights down with a 3M (or like) kit; you could even clear coat them to seal the sanded layer which will help them last.

I have an '00 and my headlights are retrofitted and give great output. With that said, I started out with the headlights you're about to put on only b/c I didn't already have HID. The fact that you already have them is a huge plus and I really think you'd regret it.
