Transmission slip when engine heats up? Speed stuck at <20mph.

2000 Maxima, 150,000 miles

I did try to search this problem but came up empty.

The car isn't showing any codes or service lights.

When the car heats up (usually with A/C on and in 90 degree temperature), the car limits the vehicles speed to 20mph or less but the engine speed will increase if you give the car more gas.

It basically feels like the transmission is slipping?

If I let the car sit and cool down it will drive fine again. Is this a known issue or common fix?

Thanks the help.

and have u actually had it scanned for codes or u mean its just not showing any codes? cuz there are ghost codes that dont illuminate the check engine light. when starting the vehicle is the o/d light flashing?

Thanks for the response, I will check everything you mentioned.

Just picked it up from the dealer. They diagnosed it as a bad MAF sensor, one bad radiator fan and old coolant that needed flushed. (quoted me $1100)

I'm going to do all the work they suggested myself...any way to verify the MAF needs replaced?

You can unplug it and see if anything changes. If you had a bad MAF then you would know, either randomly shutting off or simply just odd accelerating qualities. I would say you probably never did a coolant flush and because the tranny cooler is inside of the radiator on out cars then your tranny is getting extremely hot and not shifting right because its probably clogged and the coolant is deteriorated. I would probably guess everything they mentioned is bad and surely you got ripped off on the fan and MAF. Dont go look wht you could get them for online lol it will only make you angry

I didn't have the stealership do any work, (I did have to pay a $90 diagnosis fee )

I confirmed one of my radiator fans is toast so I'm ordering one of those tonight.

My MAF was changed in 2009 by a dealership, I find it hard to believe it is bad after just 3 years? I plan on cleaning it and seeing if that helps.

Also I'm pretty sure my coolant and trans fluid is from 2009'ish (about 40k miles) so I plan on having them changed this week.

Hope this all fixes it. I'll report back when I have an update.
