car rpm goes up and down with ac on...

My max is getting old, 188k and it's time for some serious maintenance to my baby. Car idles funny when the ac's on, had it tuned up when I bought it at 119k and now it may be time for a full tune up to be done to the max.

1. The change in rpm when the ac is on is this possibly due to a air leak in a hose?

2. A full tune up consist of what? I'm thinking spark plugs, radiator flush, oil, air filter, distributor cap, new brakes, rotors and so forth...

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Change in RPM with A/C on is normal. It puts more load on the engine and it compensates.

I'm curious to know how much of a change is happening though?

My 97 idles about 200-300 rpms higher than normal with the AC on. Our cars do not have distributors...we have coil packs.

It should idle higher, but if it's bouncing up and down, then you may have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Tune up to me is spark plugs, air filter, oil change, radiator flush, transmission flush, and fuel filter. The Maxima doesn't have a distributor, and there's no need to change out coils unless one of them is bad.

Dude, wtf are you talking about? You just throw parts into a car that it doesn't need? I wish I had your kind of money. Hell, with 188000, might as well put a new engine in it too. :smh:

Is your compressor running nonstop or is it cycling? If it's cycling off and on, then I guess the RPMs would go along with it.
You should notice if it's cycling, though. Your air wouldn't be very cold b/c it needs more charge and you would hear it.

If you have a 00-01, then I guess IACV.
