How does the black air intake thing reassemble without gaps?

I am replacing my MAF today and when I began to reassemble it, I noticed that the black fuzzy stuff around the connections between the air filter housing, the white plastic thing under the battery, and the black air intake were pretty much gone. There are now gaps, and I can't get the air intake to stay connected to the black tube it sits on top of . Anyone know how to properly reconnect these things, and how to prevent air from leaking in?

Is air supposed to get in other ways besides the plastic intake thing in the front? That's a dumb design...

Sorry, I'm still new to all of this.

I guess I'll try gurrilla glueing the intake to that tube and let the other connection be. trial and error I suppose.

u arent understanding what hes asking obv. im sure he knows an intake is suppose to INTAKE the air....

you will have to remove all the old foam tape, and go to an auto parts store and buy a new roll that will help seal the intake piping and keep it all together, but it doesnt really matter that its not seating on the tubing fully, your sucking in warmer air but it will still be pulling in mostly cold air from the intake inlet thats mounted on the rad support..

ur talking about that connector peice right? take it off, the two ends it attaches to should have a thick foam tape wrapped around them to help seal it and keep it together, DO NOT USE GLUE! or scotch tape because it looks like you tried to use it.. if ANYTHING conect it.all together loose, and wrap some black duct tape around it so it looks clean

I just got back from driving around with the new MAF (I also reset the ECU by leaving the battey disconnected for a while). I previously was getting P0174 and P0171 intermittently, and now the codes are all gone. But, the performance is still not very good, and there are still noises coming from the engine bay. it only happens when I try to accelerate.
