rear brakes = pain in my rear
rear brakes = pain in my rear
Ok so i got AXXIS front and rear pads. Painted them yellow, including the shims.
Did the front pads installation in 30 minutes + 6 hours for the yellow paint to dry.
Taking the rear stock pads took about 15-20 minutes. At one point i thought i bend the caliper. The darn thing would not come off.
So i started putting them back in. Rear passenger side first. The PISTON took for ever to push back. Passenger side first. The damn caliper would not set in on it for anything. So i unhooked the emergency brake lines and the spring. Finally i got the piston in and the caliper on. Put back on the emergency brake spring and the lines.
Hour and a half, and about 5 MIKES HARD LEMONADES and many smokes later
, i started the drivers side rear brakes.
The caliper was all the way out. So i did the same thing with the emergency brake. The freaking piston would not go in. I finally applied soo much TORQUE that i bend this 20 year old C-CLAMP, that my grandfather gave me. At this point i had my dad come in. I took the main brake fluid line off the caliper. All kinds of brake fluid came rushing out. Crap everywhere my dads garage. He's screaming at me. I am feeling kinda drunk,,hee hee. Anyway, with the help of my dad, i took the caliper and a wrench, and got the piston back in. Put it in, and it worked this time.
So in all just the rear brakes took me about 5 hours to do. I swear i will never ever,,ever ever ever do rear brakes again.
So thanks for reading. I know this was long, but i feel better now that i have VENTED
Moral of this story is: "pay someone 40 bucks to do the rear brakes"

Really? I didn't realize it would be that hard....but thanks.
the last time I changed the brake pads was when I did a whole flush, installed steel brake lines and replaced all four rotors, so I guess that was much more easier to push the piston in.
But I never thought it would be that hard. Was there any rust in your pistons? If there is the dealer would replace them for free..
btw, the rear screws in only.

. Then, somehow it "came" - I screw another one in putting plastic hose on the bleeding screw just to let old fluid go out. Took something like 15 min a side
. I like to do stuff myself - I trust the car more this way. BTW, I wish I'd used search function that time - this was discussed many times here.Mike.
