i just want to triple check that a 2007 nissan murano alternator fits into my 2003 nissan maxima they both say vq35de and i found one on ebay from a 2007 with 66k for $56 dollars free shipping and im planning to do the install myself. my budget is $70 for this alternator.

i found lower mileage alternators for cheaper but from like 2002 and such, i am assuming one from 2007 is much much newer and would be better for me. any suggestions appreciated and my budget is $70 so i am NOT buying a new one from the dealer.

 

Look up the part numbers and see if they match

Just because it's the same engine does not automatically make it interchangeable, nor that it has the same or better output specifications or even same plug.
I say it's a risk unless you have one of each you just so happen to be able to sit side by side and match up specs and plug.

 

Ok i checked on rockauto.com and all the alternators for 2003 maxima and 2007 murano are exactly the same part numbers its even the same exact page that loads up listing the alternators check it out:

So im going to go ahead and get the used murano alternator and install it when i have some free time ill post back in a couple of weeks

 

well all except for the REMY brand were the same part number... both remanufactured and a price difference too. just saying not ALL matched. good luck

you gonna have issues different plugs

 

So 1 out of 9 manufacturers has a different part number for the alternators for these cars. Im willing to bet that manufacturer prolly messed up somewhere along the line, the interchange number for the murano alternator is 601-60875 this number matches too 03-07 nissan muranos and 03-04 infinit i35.

With that being said im pretty sure everyone here knows a 03 i35 shares many parts with the 03 maxima its basically the same car in so many ways so what is to say the murano alternator won't fit if its compatible with the maximas sister (i35)??

06 alternator worked on my 04 i35, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

 

I still believe fitment and plug/connector type are only two things to look at. The third is going to be output and regulation. Any one of these three could change a part number. I hope it does fit. I want you to come back and verify, that's great knowledge to have. But also check output (maybe we could even do this via google). I just wonder if specs are the same, better than, or worse than what comes stock on the Maxima. Again, good info to have. I'm not going to e interested in running one that
Fits if I lose 10amps output. Now, if it gains me 5-10amps, I may start looking for my own Murano alty.

 

You used an alternator from an 06 what model car?

 

Your definitely right about the specs, its 110amp output and so is the maximas so im not gaining anything im just getting a replacement.

I will definitely get this alternator bench tested before i install it cause you never know! I dont wanna do all that work for a bad alternator. Autozone does this bench testing free and they give me a little receipt too!

You got it totally wrong they are both the same part number 23100 maybe you are looking at the product sku part, thats not a part number, thats courtesy's stock number 23100-A33B means its for a 5th gen maxima, And in 2310M-Z50 the M means reman and the Z50 means murano 03+, Still the same part number 23100.

You will not see their product sku numbers on the packaging when you get it from them you'll see the dealer part number 23100. i know cuz ive ordered there.

 

I thought autozone stopped doing starter and alty tests? They did in my area.

 

ok so i got the murano alternator today and what happened is they sent me the wrong one, i got one from a 2004 murano which is still the same but its older and has more miles and i was still willing to use it but then i realized it has 1 pin, i guess the other pin broke off so i spoke with the seller through eBay and they admitted to sending me the wrong unit and they're gonna send me the right one hopefully this week. so in the meantime the alternator looks just like my maximas alternator, i will let you guys be the judge of that though ill take pictures and post em up tomorrow

 

just some FYI
the 2004 murano alternator also came with the plug on it from the car side, so removed it and i compared it to my maximas plug, and it looks different! however i disconnected my maximas alternator and i inserted the murano plug into my maximas alternator and it fit and even clicked in, perfect! looks a little diff but it fits.

 

So instead of all this headache why not buy a new lifetime warranty although. Call it a day and you won't have to.worry about it again. I could see if it was an upgrade but sounds like a lot of work for no gains

 

well the only headache was i bought something and it came broken, and that can happen to anybody with anything. i cant afford a brand new alternator from nissan, and i wouldn't buy one from autozone. this is also the reason i am so good at mechanics, i couldnt afford to pay ppl to work on my car. so im doing the install myself which i actually enjoy. the only gain is i got a low mileage alternator for $56 out of my pocket and not 1 cent more cuz i did the installation. theres alot of ppl paying $300-500 for the alternator with labor.

i rather spend that extra money on MODS. i've only owned the car for 4 months and i already got es torque mounts, injen CAI, racingline strut bar, eibach springs so i can keep going if i save all those labor charges !!

 

FYI: that "new" nissan alternator that's so expensive is usually just a rebuilt one.

 

totally right, i just checked out courtesyparts.com the "new" alternator is not available anymore, only rebuilts are available for 5 times the price i paid!!

so it looks like you'll probably get the other alt that you ordered and it will be a remanufactured one as well. I can understand money being tight but you are going through a lot to get this problem fixed.

lolz common man all i did so far was order the alternator through ebay and post it up here! i havent even got my hands dirty yet!

 

ok so the correct murano alternator came in and i took the liberty to take it apart and clean it up and pass it through a brush wheel i think it looks like one of those rebuilt ones now all clean. this model is actually an oem unit and not refurbished like the previous one.

 

i also went to autozone today and got it bench tested! the girl doing the testing didnt know where to connect the positive and negative so i helped out but if she would have done it wrong it might have burned out i guess?? anyways if anyone else goes to AZ for testing make sure they hook it up right.

and the alternator passed the bench test so its good! will be installing sometime next few weeks cuz i blew my rear shock ?
thats more important right now

 

just want to update you guys, i replaced the alternator on monday and it fits like a glove, it fixed my issue of my dash lights flickering at idle. its confirmed a 2007 murano alternator fits my 2003 maxima, theres no advantage of it being from a murano its the same alternator its just an alternative to buying a newer used alternator (07 vs 03) and murano parts are cheaper than maxima parts for some reason.
