quick help with clutch issue

Currently on a 2 hour drive to the beach. Suddenly my clutch pedal is only stiff for about the last 3 inches.

1. Safe to keep driving?
2. What could it be

This happens sometimes with my clutch. Fill up the hydrolic fluid reservoir. open up the hood and it's on the drivers side right at the very back close to windshield.

It is possible you have a leak or if it's like my car, decides it needs to drain itself a few times a year. I just fill it every time I feel the clutch getting like that (a few times a year).

It may take a couple days for the clutch feeling to get back to normal as the fluid works itself back in and the bubbles out.

Yeah I am planning on doing that. I figure thats my best case scenario. I was just glad it did not ruin my day off.

2002 6sp 125k btw. Thanks for the input.

Could be:

- air trapped within the gnarly maze of our clutch line system
- leaking slave
- leaking master
- leaking rubber lines
- pressure plate issue (doubtful)

Check for fluid leaks around the floor board inside, outside under master, underneath near slave (pull back boot too), and around the stock rubber lines.

I just went through this with my wifes car a bit ago, she complained to me about this happening while driving to work. Forgot about it. Happened week later. Forgot, happened again and she got stranded (only 1" of play). I came with 12mm and adjusted master rod all the way out and limped it home.

I tried to bleed (reverse, gravity, with her pumping...etc) and could NOT get all the air out. I ended up ordering a replacement SS clutch line that went from master to slave and eliminated all the stock ****. That didn't solve it.

It ended up that the prior owners shop who replaced the master (just 4 months prior) with some POS part happened to have an internal leak. I ordered up an Exedy Master from Rock Auto and have been 100% since.
