Do I have a problem here?

Just wondering if there is anything wrong with my car but it feels like my 1.8T MSM is way faster than my maxima, everytime I drive it I dont get the same smile factor I get with the MSM. The MSM only has an exhaust, max is bone stock.

One day the wife was driving the MSM and I was on the max, taking off a traffic light side by side, she just took off (keep in mind that she does NOT drive nearly as spirited as I do, she's too nervous) and it seemed the max was struggling to catch up I have to admit that on the highway the max goes nicely, as good as the MSM does. I would expect the max to whipe off the MSM anytime anywhere, the MSM is quick but the max has almost twice the displacement, however in the low end it feels almost dead. I dont have any CEL codes or anything. I am thinking it could be the suspension? much softer on the max? idk, just curious as the expectations were different. Many times I've felt like anyone on the street could kick my rear end, even a fit or a yaris. Comments? haters please go away! I just want opinions from a serious, logical point of view.

Your Mazda is 1.5 times lighter, it's just physics IMO.

yeah but still it has a much bigger engine, about 90 HP more and over 100 ft-lb more of torque, should be enough to pull the extra weight I would think.

I wish I knew anybody else who would let me drive his max to compare, I try to compare the pick up of speed with other cars on the road (NOT street racing!) and seems to fall back, it goes fast, just not quick if you know what I mean as opposed to the MSM (well, it does both)

What kind of gas are you putting in it?

You should calculate your MPG and see if it's higher than usual. My silver max is currently running lean and gets crazy good MPG. Of course there's a significant loss of power but I almost want to leave it like that for a bit just to get the MPG out of it.

Using higher grade gasoline will improve performance. That seems to be the general consensus on here. Also, a bad MAF can cause performance issues and sometimes not trip a CEL.

HHmmm... that sounds interesting, how can I test?

Although when I drive it I get about 26 MPG combined which is about right isn't it? the wife boosts that to 28 MPG (according to the trip computer, that is)
