Knock Sensor - 2000 Maxima SE, 5 sp.

I was reading some info about the Knock Sensor. Does anyone know if my car has one?

I get quite a bit of knocking when leaving from a stop, cutting out at 3200 rpm's, sluggish when downshifting and giving it some gas (at least I think it seems slow/sluggish). These cars are usually pretty quick and responsive.

Also looking into replacing MAF Sensor/Meter.

Any suggestions? Anyone know how to test these sensors before spending the coin?

As always..........Thanks to any replies.

Yes, if you have a friend with extremely small hands you can just reach into the valley and get to it in 5 minutes

Sounds like MAF not Knock Sensor. Any Codes showing?? Does your light work for the Check Engine? Scan for codes even if the light is not on since the knock sensor won't always illuminate the light. Knock sensors can be had on ebay for about $10 and work fine.

only had 2 codes show up.....p0138 and p0139 which are 02 sensor codes and probably unrelated to this issue.

any idea if I would need to have any programming of he ECU done at the dealer after I change out the MAF? THanks.

Nope, no reprogramming needs to be done. You may have to give the car some time to relearn but that will be done just by driving.

I have heard that sometimes a maf will not trigger the cel if it is just starting to go.

But before you go the maf route, I would take care of the o2 codes. If the codes are for the upstream o2 sensors, they would most definitely cause performance problems. The downstream o2 does not cause driveability issues.
