So no, it's not an anniversary edition.

They would have had to strip it down to not know it was a 20th Ann. It has a badge on the back, a full factory body kit, smoked housing headlights, silvery gray gauges in the instrument cluster, and even a muffler with downturned pipes to clear the bodykit. Then under the hood there is a special engine cover that is identical to the Infiniti I30 ones that any other Maxima doesn't get and the trans code has a V in it on the firewall plaque indicating a Viscous Limited slip diff.

Eeeh guys. That VIN decoder doesn't work very well. I introduced the VIN of my car and it says that I got a 2001 GXE Manual when I really got a 2001 SE Automatic.

NO, YOU GOT A MANUAL. The technology said so. Someone must have snuck in and thrown an automatic in behind your back

I was going to say the body kit and the chrome door sills that say "MAXIMA" on them, but now a days people put AE body kits and door sills on NON AE Maximas.

He could have an AE, he needs to post some pics. The vin wont tell you the trim, its the second row of letters on the vin plate, on the firewall(under the hood) that will tell you your trim. Well the 6th letter will tell you(E=gxe G=gle v=se). Problem is I don't think the AE had its own special letter and it would have a V and then you would have to look at the different trim options on it.

Perforated Leather seats
Chrome/polished/whatever lol gear selector
silver pedals
"20th Anniversary Edition" badge on trunk lid
chrome door sills with "maxima" logo
AE body kit(comes in 2 pieces on each side IIRC)
Polished Wheels
Different Engine cover
Gauges wouldn't tell you the difference between an SE-AE and an SE

Basically the AE came with every option available for the car except "wood grain" trim

FYI: I honestly don't know if there is a definitive way to tell(like VIN or model code etc) besides looking at the car because so many people are putting AE items on their cars.

I did some research and you're right, the se and ae gauges are identical. I had always thought the SE's had white gauges...my bad

Why does it matter? If you have all the features you want does it matter if it is an 20th Anniversary edition really? To be honest the only real feature to look at is the tranny. If it is VLSD than you can get the rest of the stuff for a quick $400 maybe $500.

One more thing the AE's have is the perforated leather seats. Most of the rest of the seat is garbage vinyl, but the door panels and steering wheel are also perforated to match. I don't think the SE's are like this.

lol yea, main reason I know about the gauges is because I had to get a new cluster and it came from an AE.

BTW your right about the leather seats in the regular SE, they are cheap as you know what. I think the 5.5 gen seats are more comfortable. Only reason I have no interest in getting rid of my leather seats is because they are black and in great condition.

SE Gauges are White faced on the 2000 & 2001.
All "AE"s are SE trim with extras. As such all AE's have every SE option plus the Anniversary Edition extras.

The best of which, in order, are:

AE lip kit (In U.S.)
Viscous LSD
Perforated leather seats
And The Shifter (For Automatic), replacing that nasty 1994 looking Ford Taurus Shifter with a more 'manual-like' Shifter ****. Though the finish was/is super cheap and wears off weird.

If SE gauges are white-faced, then AE gauges are most certainly not. They are very much silver-faced. I've seen 4th Gen white face gauges and they are nothing like my gauges in terms of color.

I ran my Canadian Anniversary Edition cars VIN through the "VIN Checker" and it comes up with the same car, '01 GXE. The Canadian AE's had all the options as the US model minus the body kit, which was installed at the port of entry on the US cars.

louied9 - You fail to tell us where you and/or the car is from. Take the VIN to a local dealer and have them run it. I know in the past the US could only check cars that were originally sold in the US market and the same for Canada. The production date is on the tag in the drivers door jam, it will also come up when the DEALER runs the VIN. You will only get the month and year, not the day.

Sorry merlotmax,

my car is from NJ.. and after reading all the comments I don't think mine is a 20th Annv..:-(

I can tell you that in the past 2 week I have replaced the alt. not hard at all, the info listed on this site was very helpful, I recommend pulling the fans out ( simple and gave me more room) while underneath I was horrified to see the lower rad support so rusted out where the cross member bolts up , does not look like a fun replacement or a weld in fix.. I think MAF is going, and will replace it ( I hit a throttle wall at 3500 rpms, cleaned the MAF with the MAF cleaner but no luck) I replaced the tires, replacing all 4 rotors and pads this week, and the struts all around by end of year. was looking at the short shifter and an air intake to free up more room and a few more horses.

Other than that it runs great. still need more clay bar and a good coat of wax. then some tint on the glass.

?? how do I post pics in my message? I need to link it to a web site?

Sounds like it will be keeping you busy for a while. I does sound as though the MAF is gone. Just to add to the rest of the money you have spent. Remember these are 11 year old cars now. They are nice cars and could be worth the money if you plan on keeping it for a while.

For putting pictures in your post, you may have to wait until you hit a certain number of posts before it allows you to do so.

Have fun with your car.

20th anniversary edition had t- tops and a giant bird decal on the hood, hard to miss.
A friend of mine used to use his to help a trucker buddy move booze across state lines.
