My son sent this to me a few minutes ago, using his crappy phone camera. Hopefully, he pulled over before snapping it

Yes.

At a certain point I think Nissan should just give you a brand 2012 for the loyalty.

Thorzdad 10-02-2012 07:25 AM

I certainly wouldn't decline the offer!
I'd also accept a bumper-to-bumper "factory-fresh tune-up" (just in case anyone from NissanUSA is reading this ;) )

Galactica 10-02-2012 07:26 AM

Wow! That's amazing. Has anything been rebuilt on it?

Shift_A32B 10-02-2012 07:28 AM

The engine itself has never been opened. Same with the tranny. Obviously, it's gone through a couple of clutches. I suppose the biggest job we've had done on it was to replace the steering rack last year.

Otherwise, it's been all the usual maintenance issues.

:D

This post makes me happy. Mine's only got 112,xxx on it and I don't want another car payment for a VERY long time.

Our first Maxima was a '91 3rd-gen. It made it to 314k before we sold it.

foodmanry 10-02-2012 08:23 AM

That's awesome! Mine 2k has 236,000 on it now. No engine or tranny problems...just the usual other stuff. Hopefully my steering rack holds up! I have been running synthetic power steering fluid since almost day 1 when I bought the car new off the lot.

AlexxSCM 10-02-2012 08:41 AM

I will call you... dios

Im at 180K now but I plan on being that guy lol

Galactica 10-02-2012 12:46 PM

I normally get scared of a car after 150K unless it's a diesel....

Put headers on it and problem solved ;)

LA02MAX 10-02-2012 02:43 PM

I'm sure I'll be there one day :) But next year my car is getting special treatment and will have a low mileage 7th gen motor in it...so I won't have QUITE the bragging rights that you do....but my bragging rights will be more fun :)

emeka44 10-02-2012 02:46 PM

Nice!

TriniMax03 10-02-2012 03:07 PM

Im at 128K in my 03 Max, with a Auto trans but I'm already kind of scared, It's my first Max as well , First car period I love it though I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon

AJCannon 10-02-2012 06:54 PM

Congrats. I at 211,000 on my 2000 automatic SE but its currently sitting in my driveway with a bad transmission that I'm working on replacing. The engine is still great though, so my plan is to put a used tranny in and keep driving. I'd love to get to 400,000 some day on it.

Congratulations and keep us updated on the mileage b

AllMaxxedOut 10-02-2012 07:17 PM

Definitely deserve a congratulations on that. Certainly a well maintained maxima goes a long way like that one.

Crazy because my 4th gen is at 186,xxx & 3rd gen is at 237,xxx and your 5th has almost the same amount as both of them combined. lol

MaxFiyah 10-02-2012 07:37 PM

congratz!!!!

erictown 10-02-2012 07:51 PM

congrats!! Mine has only 140k miles on it, I do think you should give your local Nissan dealer a call and see what they could offer you ! Good luck man!

Thorzdad 10-03-2012 01:25 PM

Unless they came-up with a straight-up swap, there's no way we could swing any payments on a new car.

T_Behr904 10-03-2012 01:41 PM

Congrats! I'm about to click over 180K myself. So what oil(s) have you used for the engine and transmission?

MrEous 10-03-2012 01:48 PM

Out of curiosity, are you/son the original owners? Or did you buy it with miles already?

It's a 5 speed but I see what you're saying now. Hopefully my auto makes it that long without a rebuild.

Thorzdad 10-03-2012 01:59 PM

The engine started life getting full synthetics. If I recall, it was usually either Syntec or Valvoline (whichever was priced better) 5w30, and a Pure1 filter with each change, usually between 6000 and 8000 miles. Somewhere after it hit 100,000 miles or so, I went back and forth between MaxLife full-synth and MaxLife synth-blend. By the 200,000 mark, it was getting the synth-blend regularly, mostly for cost reasons. And always a Pure-1 filter.

I've always done my own oil changes, and I've learned to praise Nissan's designers for making this Maxima so easy to do the oil service. I also own a VW GTi, and I can't tell you what kind of special hell changing the oil on that thing is.

Since it's a manual tranny, I haven't really done anything with it specifically, lube-wise.
