RPM surging when lightly touching gas

I have noticed twice now when coasting down a hill and I have my foot on the gas just very lightly, I can feel the car surging. The RPMs go up and down by about 300 RPM. I have cleaned the MAF, and the throttle body. It does not happen all the time. I tried searching but just found people saying they had high RPMs not an up and down one like me.

I think it is fuel / spark related. One time it did I had a misfire immediately after the weird rpm for a few seconds

you have a leak in your gasoline delivery system. Get it checked by a certified Nissan service center.

This...

That leak can be extremely dangerous. Same thing happened to my friend's brand new Frontier he only had for 6 months. The muthrfckr burned like a demon in hell at a major intersection while he was waiting for the light to turn green.

No smell of gasoline. I think a gas leak is somewhat far fetched. I would guess a failing sensor first. If I had fuel leaking enough to start starving the engine I am sure I would see or smell it.

hmm sounds like a serious problem.

Why are you even bothering to post. How about growing up and finding something else better to do than try to act like a tough guy in front of your computer. Go find somewhere else to troll.

If you don't smell gas, that's good. That means the leak isn't coming into the engine. Maybe it's from below and leaking into the ground?

Do the RPMS jump a lot when you press further down on the gas pedal? If so, then the problem may related to the throttle positioning.

I have been under the car and there is not any fuel leaking. It only happens when the throttle is barely being pressed and even then it is not all the time. Steeping on the gas harder makes it smooth out and drive like normal. If I take my foot off the gas it idles like normal.

if i push the button on the dash that looks like a red triangle all of my blinkers start flashing. is this normal? why would i want to turn left and right at the same time?

If you're gonna quote, please make sure your answer is not in what you're quoting. It just confuses us, ok? edit...I see you fixed it. Great. Thanks

Do the rpms go DOWN while your foot is still on the gas? Or only up? They should only go UP when the gas pedal is pressed

it means your car is doing the blinker self-check. Find an assistant to verify all the turn signals are signaling at the proper intervals.

ok going to recap:

Going down hill with the gas pedal slightly depressed the RPMS surge up and down by about 300 RPM repeatedly

Stepping on the gas clears this up and car accelerates smoothly

Taking foot off the throttle makes it idle down and idle like normal.

So

Stepping on the gas clears this up and car accelerates smoothly

Taking foot off the throttle makes it idle down and idle like normal.
So what's the issue sounds like operator error

Push the throttle all the way in, if the rpms increase by 5000rpm, then that means that your Throttle Position Sensor is not working properly. Go to autozone and tell them that every time you push the gas pedal, the car wants to go faster.

I didn't say when I press the gas the rpms keep going up. I said while lightly pressing the gas the RPMs surge. If people weren't sure what I was saying the adult thing to do would be to ask. Not post completely rude and ****head posts.

Thanks for clearing that up. It all makes perfect sense now.

This might be your problem right here...

So in your particular situation, try cleaning the gas pedal.

Of course, there is this golden rule to follow...

Sounds like a small vacuum leak. Happened to me when I was buttoning the manifold up on a DE-k swap. It was small enough to not affect driveability, but surge during light throttle.

Sounds to me like the TPS may have a spot burned out causing it to bounce around. Does it surge if you give it that same amount throttle from a complete stop or only when slowing down?

I'm surprised how everyone is being a douche bag on here. It's been a while since I've been on the org and can't believe the admins even tolerate **** like this.. especially from Paul.. Paul I'm gonna go tell your wife you're being an ******* online again!
