Maxima Rant

Well its the first time I've owned a vehicle other then Honda/Acura. The Max is my winter beater, I like the car and all but dammit I was changing the front brakes today (rotors and pads) and the passenger side caliper bracket pins were seized in. Had the same problem with both brackets on the rears as well last year.

A 1.5 hour brake job turned into 4 hours! No one stocks the bracket alone, I'd have to order one from an online retailer and wait 2 business days. Couldn't wait so we baked the caliper bracket and brute force remove both pins.

Freaking horrible. In the end it was all repaired, done properly. Synthetic greased the pins and other brake components, replaces the rubber covers, bled the brakes, anti seized most of the bolts. All said and done it was a long day and everything was successful.

Does anyone else have these problems ?

thats not a "maxima" problem, thats a problem due to age of the vehicle.

glad you're doing the job right, take good car of the car and she'll take good care of you.

welcome to the family.

Age and the fact that since the OP said it's a "winter beater" means that it has been subjected to winter road salts for many years.

Ya its my winter beater, picked it up last november. Its a great car drive nice, motors smooth and heated seats for the winter is nice.

It sits outside 365 days, and leaving in Toronto salt is sprayed liberally here.

My maxima calipers seized as well. Every car has its own stupid faults. I am thankful that this is a super easy fault.
