2001 manual transmission issue

i have an issue with my 01 maxima transmission. its a 5 speed. i recently replaced the clutch about 8 months ago. and now it started making this noise when its either in neutral or in gear as im accelerating. i thought it could be the clutch adjustment but my mechanic said that wasnt the issu, he mentioned something regrding an issue with the inner bearing of the tail of the transmission. the noise the ca is making sounds kind of as if its grinding on somthing. the noise foes away when the clutche is engauged. the car does still run perfectly and shifts as it should. its just the noise that concerns me.

if anyone can give me there opinion on what they think it could be. i would really appreciate it.

From what I've read, you are experiencing the steady failure of the input shaft bearing which will require a rebuild... Mine doesn't grind, but it does whine just a bit when the clutch it out. If I keep mine long enough that it becomes a problem, I will be upgrading to the 02-up 6-speed in mine. I figure if you're going to need to spend a bunch of money, you might as well get an extra gear out of the deal!

Had the same problem, it made a noise every time I pressed in the clutch, and basically started slipping until I couldnt start the car because the pedal was pressed in and stayed that way. The guy had to replace the hydraulic mechanism in it to make it work, but you can try to just change the tranny fluid (something you are supposed to do when changing something in the transmission and my mechanic didn't do it and im noticing some slippage again, I wanna just get an 01 GLE auto in it and not screw around with shifting anymore 'sigh').

It sounds like you are saying the noise goes away when you press the clutch pedal in. If this is the case, it is certainly the input shaft bearing. Replacing it requires opening the transmission, essentially a "partial rebuild." If you let it go too long it will start to damage gears beyond repair and eventually you may have a total failure of the bearing, 1st or 2nd gear etc (also at some point the bearing will be bad enough that you will start leaking gear oil out of the input shaft seal because of the play that develops in the shaft because of the bad bearing not holding it in place properly.)
