VIAS Found Stuck
VIAS Found Stuck
Found VIAS stuck open..... There is a groove worn into the shaft, and the 'arm' rusted into it. Freed it up and still got stuck. Added safety wire for a temp repair. See pics. Car drives completely different, and I can't detect pinging anymore... I think this has occasionally happened in past, then at some point it rusted together... Works fine until I buy parts.

Do what I did, you will not need to spend any cash or wait for shipping.
Take off the VIAS assembly. Inside there is a throttle plate with 2 screws. Remove those 2 screws and take off the throttle plate. You now have an almost IDENTICAL block plate. The only difference is the tiny support bar that held the plate. Your intake will now have just as much airflow as a tru block plate. (maybe a .4% difference, which is not noticeable)
Your car should drive much better.. be sure to cap the vacuum port from the upper intake

its his choice
Oh and quick, what's the volume for the vias so that he can give you a measurement to compare your 1-2% difference? Let's do numbers eh?
You still have not answered me about the steam mod upgrade, I am waiting with baited breath to hear your expertise on the non-traditional mods!

Helping others is the point of this forum, not flaming and trying to get he highest level and best avatar
OH WOW! A little lesson to be learned, thanks Mr Rogers...
....oh yeah, and YOU wanting to help others..... maybe to set their cars on fire... or make their engine bay look like a brillow pad orgy being overseen by the HUMUNGOUS of the wastelands dryer vent cold air intake...
in the spirit of giving out nuggets of information I present you with
G.I. JOE "knowledge is half the battle."
APPLY THAT ONE PUSSNUTS.
Until 15lbs of vacuum sucks in the rtv or vacuum cap into the motor. Plugs a valve. Then bends it. Breaks the piston. And bam motor toast. Or spend 20$ or whatever on a nwp. Or cxjperformance bop and have it look clean. About the cheapest mod you can get for the maxima....

It's -20 to -25 PSI of vacuum sucking in, anything you put in there will get sucked into the engine bay unless done properly.
ITS $20 for a BOP.
If you WANT to keep your VIAS, get one off a member that deleted his and has it in their basement, or go get one from the wreckers.
If you want to DELETE it, get a block off plate, or take the old valve to a professional to cut it off and weld the hole shut (which will cost you more than $20 probably, and look ugly.
Whatever you do, DO NOT listen to ANYTHING Planecrash005 says.
