rear shock or window motor?

I have a noise comming from the passenger side of the car what sounds like it is in a door pannel and I am trying to figure out if it is an original rear shock or a window motor? Can something inside a door pannel like a window motor loosen up? Is there a test for the rear shock before bringing it to a shop?

Try looking at the shock top mounting bolts in the trunk and see if they are loose. Compare the nut in the center with the shock on the other side.. Look at the shock from underneath the car. If it looks like it is covered in oil, it is bad. Bounce the corner of the car up and down as hard as you can. Listen for noises and note how quickly the car stops moving when you let up. Compare it to the other side.

As for the power window motor coming loose, it's possible. Anything held in by nuts and bolts could come loose. Kind of rare for a window motor but it's possible. I would think that you would hear something when you closed the door if the motor was loose.

I did not think about a loose bolt. Great advice thank you. I will let you know what it was. Brian
