After tune up, CEL code

I just did the coils/plugs in my 02' Max due to a cyl. #5 misfire code. Got it apart and sure enough oil in the spark tube for #5. So after reading on here i bought a 04' valve cover for the rear bank and re-installed everything. Before installing my UIM I cleaned the TB and it, messing with the butterfly. Now after driving a short way the CEL comes on again, PO507. So I researched this and just found on the FSM the idle relearn and throttle relearn procedures that I will do tomorrow after leaving the battery off overnight tonight. However, in my search I came across possible causes for PO507... one being PCV valve. Now I never took mine out of my 02' rear valve cover... does the 04' come with one or did I screw something up by not transferring it/buying a new one? Or should I just try the relearn?? Thanks for your help.

I'm at work so I cannot look up the code but after a job, if there is a CEL, I always make sure everything is put back together and torqued properly. Also, go ahead with that relearn. I cannot tell f your post says you did or did not mess with the butterfly valve. Hopefully you didn't. Th pcv valve is a quick cheap job so take it out, shake it, if it does not rattle then replace....I think. It has been a while since I did that.

I did mess with opening and closing the butterfly while the intake was out of the car. Wish I wouldn't have now. However the question still is does the 04' valve cover come with a PCV valve or do I need to install the one from my 02'? This puts me in a tough spot... Is the PCV valve error causing PO507 or is the fact that I opened and closed the butterfly on the intake causing it?

The FSM says to check for intake air leaks after the MAF sensor.

If you installed the 6th gen valve cover, it should come with a new PCV valve (white tip), so if you hooked the molded hose into it properly and clamped it back, it should be good to go.

Since you touched the butterfly valve (I made the same mistake unknowingly 5 years ago when I first did my plugs), it'll need an idle re-learn. I couldn't do it on my own with the paedal dance and so I took it to the dealer for a re-learn.

Final thing to do is to check your work. You might have forgot to re-connect some hoses. Check that the air intake accordian rubber piece is installed properly and has no breaches.

Thanks, it does have a white tip for the PCV valve. Well at least that's one thing off my list. I'll re-check my work tonight and start the battery disconnect and re-learn procedures. Doing research on this relearn people say to clear the ecm by disconnection of battery and turning either brake lights/dome lights/head lights on. Do I really need to have this apart overnight to be able to reset the ecu?

Disconnecting the battery wont clear the code. You will need to clear the cel with an obd scanner. First drive the car for about ten min and then attempt to do the relearn procedures. Then you can take it from there. Many people i heard on another org have said that the relearn works but when they turn the car off, it doesnt save the relearn. So what some have done was do the relearn and then disconnect the battery after to attempt " to save the relearn". I cant say this will work for sure, but many on another org have said it does work.

Disconnecting the battery will not solve your problems. If your idle is very high because of touching the throttle plate, you will need to take it to the Nissan dealer for an Idle Re-Learn.

There is a procedure somewhere on this site to reset the idle by way of intermittently tapping the accelerator pedal, but I found it did not work for me, and rather than waste time and fiddle around, I just took it to my dealer and chalked it up as a learning opportunity and the cost of the re-learn as self-educated tuition.

Thanks, I can clear the ECU myself and if I can't fix it by fiddling then I guess I'll pay for my own tuition also!
