Parking brake help

I have a '00 Maxima 5spd SE. My driveway is very steep and when i either back into my driveway or pull straight in I cant sit all the way at the top of the driveway with the parking brake set (even when pulling the e-brake ALL THE WAY up till it wont move) without the vehicle rolling back down. With my 2007 Taurus it doesnt matter if i pull in or back in I can set my vehicle with the e-brake only and it doesnt move. My question is not only why is this happening and if i need to adjust the e-brake do i need to take the center console out or can I do it without disassembling the console. Thanks.

There's an adjustment nut(10mm) located at the base of the handbrake control which you should be able to access if you remove the handbrake trim. Try tightening it, but your problem may not be the cable adjustment as the handbrake mechanism on the rear calipers on our cars tends to deteriorate over time and not function effectively. Good luck

The cover is removed because i can see the hole when i pull the e-brake, so all i need to do is to tighten that nut, I had the rear calipers replaced because of a no e-brake issue. So the calipers are good. Does the e-brake need to be engaged or disengaged while making the adjusment.

I usually end up with it partially engaged to allow access to the nut but whatever allows you to access and tighten it depending on the tool you use, short of full engagement. After you adjust it make sure it's fully disengaging when released. If that doesn't solve the issue, and assuming your calipers are good (I've had rebuilt calipers that were defective out of the box) then the issue will be the cables.
