I don't think it weighs more than 75 ish. I moved mine around with ease.

It falls straight out the bottom - ker plunk :P At least for me. But I pulled the motor, too.

If your not pulling the motor and just dropping the trans, it will clear. It's a B**** to get it back in though. FOR SURE a two man job. You have to twist it and make it just right to clear the subframe putting it back in and if you don't have a trans jack, i suggest getting one. It's pretty heavy so be prepared when dropping/lifting it. When i put the trans in i had someone lift it on to my chest from the top and i pushed and the other guy pulled. (Not the safest way) lol

6spd 5.5 gen trans removal is not bad at all.

ive done it alone a few times, its possibly if you know what your doing.

I lower the engine a little and the trans clears the frame perfectly. no issues.

from what I can see if I remove the thermostat/housing the engine will be able to tilt more. I'm jot realy worried about the weight I'm just worried about it clearing. im going to have one of my friends and ill be laying down lots of folded carpet incase we drop it.

no

dont remove the thermostat housing, your making more work for yourself.

you dont have to "DROP" the trans out, itll slide out once the clears the frame.

edit, i guess i should list out the steps needed lol

That's typically how these things go. The jack would make it easier but you can lay under it, have someone lower the engine slowly, and set it on your chest. It's not too horribly heavy. I've dropped transmissions that way before I had the jack.

i plan to put the lower subframe back on the motor and use it for a jacking point for the motor, would that be the best way?

I don't know how stable that would be. I just use a block of wood between the jack and the oil pan (this is where the FSM says you should support it). Just be careful and avoid the drain plug.

Interesting...it should work.
You could also support the motor from above.

When you put the trans back on (after rear main seal replacement) drop the subframe again. It will tilt the engine at an easier angle to get the trans on

As others have said, it's much easier if you unbolt the subframe from the chassis as you can support the engine with a jack and once the tranny mount is unbolted you can tilt the engine/trans down at an angle so that you have clearance to slip it out. Getting it out is a lot easier than getting it back on. I find it easiest to get back on if you ease it up/in with the end of the transmission slightly to the right. The 6 speed weighs 123 pounds per Nissan specs.

I got it out and it was simple.

With the thermostat/housing off the motor was able to tilt a good amount safely. Alternator pully is the only one that touches the body if you lower it too much.

I kept the engine subframe on. My jack has a wide plate and fits perfectly under subframe.

It slides off easy with the differential end pointed down.
