New to the site/ecu question

Hi all im new to this site and i have had my 5th gen maxima for a year now. Im really trying to make it quicker with simple mods or even simple tricks to up hp and tourqe. As of right now i have a cold air intake and a 2.5" catback exhaust. I was wondering if a 2003 ecu had more hp and tourqe than my 02. If someone could help me out that would be totally awesome. Thank you

No change in perfermance between years (02-03) of the 3.5 engine; No difference in ecu's. Only option is to go standalone. Can have timing advanced via cipher/Nissan tech. Will fetch a couple hp.

How much would the timing advancement cost average i would be interested in that, also are there any after market cams or cam gears that would help up my hp?

Goto the all motor section and read that way you wont have to ask.also you can get cipher from uprev and do it yourself might be cheaper for the timing advance.

I can do the base timing for you.

Try the AM section, or the sticky about piggybacks.

Both good reads.

IIRC i dont think it was ever proven that the timing advance increased actual HP, but it definitely does make a difference in throttle response/acceleration for what its worth.

It sounds like you should search in the allmotor sub section

There are at least 2 dynos that I know of support a marginally small gain, albeit both on the 3.5L, but repeatable.

Ranmas2004, and 6spd_Hayes.

Cost is relative. Relative to what you can afford. Relative to your assertiveness and negotiation skills. Many members have theirs done at Nissan for free. I walked out to the shop, asked for some help from the shop foreman, lucked out it was the first guy I approached, and he did it for free despite offering him cash. It took him 3-5 minutes; he declined payment. He even said if I needed anything else to come back and see him.
