Strange engine vibration 2003 maxima
Ok, im new on here. Anyway, recently ive replaced all four rotors, brake pads, and tires on my 2003 nissan maxima se automatic. In addition, i had an exhaust manifold converter replaced. After that, i found out that my front engine mount needed to be replaced. Ever since i got the car back from having the mount replaced, the engine vibrates noticeably more than before. However, the vibration only occurs in drive, reverse, 3rd,2nd, and 1st when the car is at a stop or in idle. As i accelerate, the noise goes away. For some reason, the engine is quiet in neutral and drive. What could this be? The engine isnt rattling, but vibrating. If its in gear at a stop light or in idle, it feels like the whole car is shaking. Other than the mount and converter, this has been the strongest running car ive owned, it has 116,000 miles and no engine mods.

When you say front which one do you mean? Because I know two of the mounts are electric and when the rpm goes up they stiffen if i'm not mistaken, Could be that it was installed wrong or not plugged in? or by shaking you mean a jolt every so often it could be a misfire.

The mount was not electric. By shaking, i mean that while in gear at idle or stopped, i can noticeably feel the engine running, when before my max was quiet. It does not shake in park or neutral, or when i accelerate past idle speed. If it helps, the mount was not oem and was purchased at advanced auto parts for around $150. Installation, however, was $250 alone by a reputable garage.

On automatic maximas, the front motor mount is electronic. That electric motor mount changes stiffness to stop vibration. That vibration is most noticable when the car is stopped and in drive or engaged in any gear. When the car is in neutral the problem should disappear.
Manual maximas don't need that electric motor mount because when the car is standing still, by the very nature of a maual tranny, the gearbox will always be in neutral. If it isn't, the engine stalls out![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
It looks like your mechanic replaced your old electric motor mount with a regular non-electric one for a manual maxima. Or, he replaced the correct one but forgot to plug it in

Thank you. By the way, how many engine mounts are on the 03 Max and which ones are electric? If i replace one, do i need to replace all of them to get the engine to run smooth again even if only one was cracked?
