Warranty work
What will they fix on a spankin new car? First itme with warranty; so I wonder.
I would like to take it in for rattles in the door (were you grip to close) and something in the engine bay. When in first or second and give it some throttle and release it makes some clunking noise for a second or two. Any ideas.

For that first 36,000 miles, its literally bumper to bumper. I would take your car in for anything during that period of time. Periodically check the forum's TSB sticky or NHTSA.gov to see if any TSBs come up that apply to your car. I have had at least a dozen TSBs completed for my 00 Max. Some dealers don't mind doing warranty work regardless since they will be paid by Nissan. However, some do.

common error...
no.. your 36K is not bumper to bumper. you are really only protected (by law) to 12K or 1yr. Matter of fact, all wear items and rattles/cosmetic problems become a real pain after 12K. Yes, you can still get them fixed, but their tune changes drastically. To their credit, motor/tranny work is honored up to 60K without too much hassle.

They have to honor the 36K/3yr that's stated in our manual. Its in the legal contract we signed when we bought the car.

I do believe its...
the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act
http://autopedia.com/html/HotLinks_LemonMM2.html
which is what lemon law is based on

yeah... blah blah... the bottom line is that rattles, trim, brakes, hoses, paint can all be called wear items. But if failure occurs before 12K, then it's largely accepted that a defect made the part wear prematuraly. Since you can quickly go to arbitration and win easily under 12K, they cover everything, no questions usually asked, most of the time even wear items like tires and batteries.
After 12K, the tables kinda turn. The TSB on rotors is a perfect example. Of course they would be fixed under 12K, but after that everyone was having to pay out of pocket until the TSB came out.

Re: I do believe its...
Even though the TSB is out there for the brakes/rotors...be careful. I tried to get mine fixed and the dealer is telling me that the rotors are not covered and that there is a 100$ charge for them to be repaired. I haven't taken my 2001 max to another dealer yet...
