Intermittent engine stutter

Intermittent engine stutter at idle - not quite a sputter or misfire. No CEL. Runs ok otherwise. recent MAF problems but fixed that. replaced plugs.

10/01 ( 2002 ) 3.5l with 175K miles and its an oil burner. 1 qt every 1000.

You can have a bad ignition coil or coils and NOT have a code thrown. Your symptoms line up with an intermittent misfire of one ignition coil.

I had the same problem and it finally threw the general misfire code after the coil got pretty bad with the intermittent misfire. I bought one new front and one new rear coil. Changed them one at a time until I found the bad coil.

Go with OEM ignition coils as aftermarket coils are hit and miss in terms of quality; no pun intended.
