Stripped bolt from clutch to flywheel - Help?
Stripped bolt from clutch to flywheel - Help?
Replacing my clutch.
Unfortunately, I stripped one of the bolts from the clutch to the flywheel. I was being extremely careful, using torque wrench and torquing to spec. Oh well. It is not badly stripped since I stopped immediately.
Obviously, the most conservative fix is to replace the flywheel.
However, I'm wondering if I could go without one bolt out of the three bolt set - middle if it matters. And if so, I'm guessing I should completely remove the bolt to prevent it from coming loose.
The only other thing I can think to do is to threadlock it down. FSM doesn't call for treadlock on those bolts.
Any experienced suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

I'd say it sounds like time for a Fidanza or JWT flywheel. Thread lock won't hurt it all (JWT requires RED thread locker on the bolts). I wouldn't feel comfortable just leaving it like that. Possible balance issue? Maybe drill out the threads and use a Heli-Coil? It's just a dangerous thing to be messing with. I'd be looking for a new flywheel. Pretty sure I already tossed my old one or I'd offer it up.
Yeah, I'm torn right now between new flywheel and helicoil type fix.
Another question - I see that autozone and napa both sell the flywheel portion of the assembly that Nissan sells for 400. Anyone have experience with either of those.
Basically, I'm leaning toward replacement - but without buying the full assembly from Nissan.
