tech question about valve timing control

proud owner of 2003 Maxima 130k mi, Ive had my max for about a year now, so far i've done a basic tune up (plugs, filters) valve covers from 04 vq35, oil pan gasket, oil cooler gasket, Cam sensor bank 1, clean TB and throttle relearn, car seems to run pretty good, around 20.7 mpg with 50/50 city/highway driving, i get an occasional jitter from the motor, nothing serious i guess, fuel press damper getting on my nerves but its ok for now, my question is this, my intake valve timing seems not correct. conditions during my scan are, car not yet warmed up was idling at around 1k rpms (630-670 norm) INT/V timing at Bank 1 (-1 degrees) and INT/V Timing at Bank 2 ( -17 degrees) now it is my understanding if it was out of time like then my motor should run like crap...

anyone have input in regards to this please all suggestions appreciated, i get very emotional when it comes to my car and would like to sort this out

Not sure what it is at idle, but doesn't really matter.

It's more so under load that counts.

Here's a comparison of what it should look like under load. I've read mine and it's all over the place when not under load.

If it's out of sync/out of it's parameters, you'll get an SES light.

update...

so this was bugging me so much that i couldn't sleep at night, i went and swapped cam sensor in bank 2 for a different one i had laying around from an engine swap for a customer, these are my results... the engine feels like its got more "life" to it, and coincidentally my hard shift between 1st and 2nd(auto) is gone,

^ interesting.

The 'life' of my acceleration in my car kind of comes and goes. It's spot on amazing in the cold start warm up condition. Once warmed up it looses it's spunk that it had and needs to be wound out to higher RPM for good acceleration.

Also i have a rough 1-2 shift at part throttle as well.

SO all you did was swap the sensor? Might need to scavenge a junk yard for new sensors.

very interesting thanks for posting!!! My Haltech software throws a code on my VQ35DE for this also, I want to get an idea where it 'should' be and set it there. Though I think the cams in the RWD might be different?

Manny, I'll probably steal the chart you have and basically copy it to see if that fixes it.
