front engine mount replacement

whats up guys, i recently picked up an 03 maxima se auto and the front lower engine mount has a sensor in it, would it be alright to unplug the sensor and just replace it with one without a sensor? i got a good deal on a brand new one without the sensor so i just want to make sure it would be alright.

Yes a lot of people change them to non-electric mounts or simply unplug them as they can cause problems. There is a motor to soften the mount at idle to reduce vibration and stiffen when you are driving.

I don't recall the technique, but search.....there is a way to force the mount to stiffen so that you can unplug it in that position. Of course, if its leaking and lost oil, won't matter. Also, should verify if you have one or two electronic mounts.

if i recall, you're supposed to rev the engine to at least 1,000 rpm while unplugging the mount.

Yes you can unplug it and replace it with one without a sensor, like others have said plenty have done it...

Are you talking about a mount insert or an actual mount (metal frame and insert)?

If the former, it wont fit in your metal mount, if the latter, it will bolt right on to your crossmember.

yes im replacing the entire front mount with bracket, i got one from autozone as the whole assembly, but it just doesnt have the sensor. Thanks for the reply guys i appreciate it.

So should i rev the car to 1,000 and unplug the sensor before removing it? or would it not make much a difference. i dont know if its leaking or not havent gotten to look yet.

If replacing, no need to rev it. Just swap it out.

Since you are dropping the cross member, you might as well replace the rear one while you are at it. I mean, you need to pull it out with the cross member.

ok sounds good, yea i put the car up on the lift at my buddies shop. We took a look at it and only the front mount and side passanger mount look very worn, i believe the rear looked fine but if its a little worn also then ill probly replace that also, is the rear also fine to replace without a sensor?

Yes, you can replace both without sensors. With those replaced and the passenger side mount replaced, you will notice a nice improvement. All three seem to take a good beating on our cars.
