Door hinge adjustment

Just thought I would mention how I adjusted the sagging hinge on the drivers door of our 02 Maxima. All the posts I found here spoke of installing shims on the door side of the lower hinge. I opened up the door enough to be able put upward pressure on the bottom with a bottle jack and short 2 x 4. After loosening the two bottom hinge bolts on the car body side I struck the hinge using a flat faced chisel and hammer. Since door hinge bolts usually go into a sliding plate on the other side of the body metal it easily moved back the approx. 1/8" required to fix the problem. I then re-tightened the bolts and tested the door. Idealy the hinge should be replaced but I am not planning on keeping the car much longer. For this repair the plastic wheel well shield has to be removed first. In my case I had the shields and bumper off already as I was repairing the rusted out lower rad support that effects all these cars in the salt belt. If one was only repairing the door hinge issue most of the time will be spent removing the stupid plastic retainers that hold in the plastic shield. The actual repair takes about 5 min. One might be able to save time by just opening up the rear of the shield enought to get at the hinge bolts
