knock sensor (p0325)

----10/14/2013 update---- : if your car is pinging/knocking i finnally fix mine up scroll down for info

hi guys i got a 2001 maxima VQ30DE-K and ussually get the p0325 knock sensor malfunction code.

i checked the knock sensor itself with a snap-on camera beacause its a tight spot haha and its look like okay (not melted) but maybe its bad.. or its the wires.

i checked the resistance ohms and i dont see any continuity at all

and my car makes a bigg metallic <<TICK>> or ping when i hit the pedal half throttle when launch at a stop

does its the knock sensor that is causing this...

-brand new spark plugs
-brand new fuel filter in the tank
-brand new air filter

and my question is : does VQ30DE-K got one or two knock sensors... i can only see one with the camera i was thinking there 1 for each bank or i dont know ... someone can confirm that?

and i want to know if i change the knock sensor .. do you think it will stop my bigg knock that happen ussually? .. beacause i want your help and anwser about this beacause it look like a big job to change it and i need upper and lower intake gaskets and the sensor itself $$$

thanksss

One knock sensor

If it's throwing a code, yeah you can change it if you want.

You said you measured the restance and it did not have continuity...that's GOOD..it's not supposed to... It should be in the M-Ohm range, a proper KS reads somewhere around 500K-Ohms iirc. If you were set to Ohms it may have showed infinite, but it really isn't.

Brand new spark plugs...what TYPE and BRAND? Anything other than NGK Platinums (or coppers) and

Any other codes? Because the KS itself does NOT turn on the check engine light.

Do you use premium gas?

thanks a lot finnally some advice haha...

i know that my thread was a little dumb ... if i got p0325 code <do i need to change the sensor> loolll but i was confused that maybe some other thing play a role with my knocking sound from the engine (like dropping a marble in a tomato Can )

Okay

-i always and always put 91 octane fuel (highest here in canada).
-my sparks plug are bosch platinum (well i think) with this same sharp tip http://www.boschautoparts.com/SparkP...s/Platinum.jpg
-and i dont have any other code instead of my tranny solenoid pressure ( i modded my drop resistor haha but i dont think that causing a problem )

again thx a lot for information... i think i will buy my knock sensor and intake gaskets

what brand do you recommand Amerikaner83.. i think i will buy it from rockauto.com there a lot of choice beck arckley, delphi ect...

For knock sensor, I'd go with OEM nissan, honestly. I've read success with eBay knock sensors for under 10 bucks but I think you can get OEM knock sensors for under 40 bucks.

Have you always had that sound? How long ago did you put the Bosch plugs in? I would take 'em out and go with the NGK as mentioned earlier. They seem to be the ones our cars like the best.

okay..

for my knocking sound its only when i hit the pedal fast... if i go slowly it is not knocking... and theres no pinging when im up a hill or something.. its only once i smash the pedal quick...

i bought the car 2 years ago and the code p0325 knock sensor was on... i cleared it and it take like 3-4 months to come back.. but since 3 months it come right after 2-3 weeks after erase the DTC...

and for the knocking its was rare... but now its more often than before.. but i dont think that since i changed the spark plugs.

and for your advice about spark plugs, i will look for NGK at my local store

and i will try to search a OEM sensor on ebay ..

thanks

There was a thread where some dude here had a bunch of NIB OEM knock sensors and was selling them for 30 or 35 bucks iirc.

No need to change the harness if it looks to be in good condition

If your running premium fuel i don't think you need a knock sensor. i maybe wrong put pretty sure its only their for if u run 87octane and motor starts pingin ecu picks it up n retards the timing. if u runnin premium then shouldn't be pingin and runs fine.

Yes, you are wrong. SHOULD is the operative word here.

Going by your logic, you don't NEED seat belts...if you're a good driver then you SHOULD be fine, right? Delete those.

Same point.

im waiting for my knock sensor ~$85 shipped. And order the 3 intake gaskets and even i got the TB gasket included with the metallic <spacer> that is between the IM and the TB ~$55 shipped

i will take my time when removing intakes and even look for the VIAS if its not broken or something...

its become very worse last week, the summer is getting hotter here in canada, quebec (25-30 Celcius) and its pinging so bad near 2000 rpm on a Good load (or uphill) in hot temperature (got even the bone stock airbox.. no SRI)

COME ON ugly UPS truck hold it WOT hahaha

okay i got my parts

i start to remove all the vaccum lines and harness/brakets before remove the upper intake
(before)

upper intake removed. Its the worst part of the fix. dont forget theres 4 bolt behind the engine between the intake and firewall...its a very tight spot i hurt myself and cut my finger when i unscrew one,0 it smashed on a bracket OUCH

lower intake removed. i didnt remove the fuel rail i just unbolt the intake and i flip it over still with the fuel line attach to

here is the little stupid thing you can see that nissan engineer put it at the BEST place to reach to it haaha well done...the sensor look okay it was not cracked or melted at all

i changed it and now im currently in re-assembling

its not too bad it take me 1 to 1.5 hours to reach to the KS... i lose time on the 4 bolt behind the upper plastic intake... these was pain in the ... and some sticky vaccum lines... but against that it was not so bad... the upper intake it the worst... once you got it in your hand its easy and fast to reach the KS

---update---

(sorry for the long time..)
after the fix, the code p0325 never came back. but it was still pinging a lot ! ...
last week i was getting 2 new SES code p0174 and p0171 (bank 2 and bank 1 system too LEAN) so i first looked for any intake vaccuum leaks, i sprayed some MAF cleaner on all vaccuum lines and everything looks okay (no leaks) i finnally found that the MAF sensor was bad. i try to put one from a junkyard and BAMM car feel stronger and no more pinging/knocking since last week .

im just sharing my story to help others with the pinging/knocking problem. if your maxima is knocking dont blame the knock sensor . Well for me its changed nothing but the SES light is gone.

Bump from the past,
So my brother and I took hours to get down to the knock sensor and when we did the harness started to come apart..

-So I'm looking high and low for the harness with no luck. I'm wondering if we can just splice it all up?

The knock sensor only has one wire going to it. Splicing the wire would be just fine.
