Weird electical issue. Horn honks when connected to Data Link

My car was in for the good ole ABS light and a few other things. The mechanic said that when he plugged in to read the ABS code, the horn would just honk and he couldn't communicate with the computer. Is it an easy diagnosis/fix or should I just pay my mechanic to debug the electrical system? Thanks!

That is weird and would probably take a lot of time to figure out which translates into many dollars. I would run the self diagnostics on the ABS to see what the problem is.

Wow why didn't I think of that? Thanks! There is a decent write up on how to do it on S15 Sentra, does anybody know of one on Maxima.org that has more detail?

Use the procedure that is in the BR (BRakes) section of the FSM.

It is in the 2000 and 2001 manuals. Nissan left the info out of the 2002 and 2003 FSM, but the diagnostic is still there and functional.

So in the 2001 FSM, the procedure starts on page 48. The "blink codes" translations are on page 61.

For the 2001 FSM BR section:

Wow that tip is invaluable, I was wondering why I couldn't find it in the '02 FSM. Thanks!
