Po217 help
Po217 help
I have just encountered the PO217 code. Over 45 days ago I had a front end fight with a deer. I went on the .org and found it maybe the thermostat. When replacing the thermostat no fluid came from the engine block. It was in my drive way on a 25 degree downslope. I then drove the car and it ran fine that night. That morning it overheated again and has been doing so since. I changed the coolant temp sensor and the switch and no glory!!!! The car is making a periodic squeaking noise at the front of the motor. Something is struggling to turn properly.
Yes the car was repaired professionally and a new radiator was installed. Both hoses get hot. As long as it idles the temperature is fine. About 10 minutes of driving and she overheats. PLEASE ADVISE.
No milky residues on the dipstick or in the antifreeze!
THANKS

sounds like you have air in the cooling system. bleed it until no more air comes out.
I hope you aren't driving great distances with the needle over on H........
Question.
Are both rad hoses hot and hard? I.E. you have pressure in both hoses after the t-stat opens?

Both are hot and fairly rigid. Since no fluid came out of the engine block when i changed the thermostat could i have some type of blockage? Even when i changed the temperature sensor i had no fluid overflow! The video i watched had some fluid overflow. I have put an entire bottle of antifreeze, no leaks so where is it going????
+ Pour coolant through coolant filler neck slowly to allow air
in system to escape.
4. Fill radiator and reservoir tank to specified level.
5. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature without
radiator cap installed.
+ If coolant overflows radiator filler hole, install filler cap.
6. Run engine at 2,500 rpm for 10 seconds and return to idle
speed with radiator cap installed.
+ Repeat two or three times.
Watch coolant temperature gauge so as not to overheat the
engine.
7. Stop engine and cool it down.
+ Cool down using a fan to reduce the time.
+ If necessary, refill radiator up to filler neck with coolant.
8. Refill reservoir tank to MAX level line with coolant.
9. Repeat steps 5 through 8 two or more times with radiator cap
installed until coolant level no longer drops.
10. Check cooling system for leaks with engine running.
11. Warm up engine, and check for sound of coolant flow while
running engine from idle up to 3,000 rpm with heater temperature
controller set at several positions between COOL and
WARM.
+ Sound may be noticeable at heater water ****.
12. If sound is heard, bleed air from cooling system by repeating
steps 5 through 8 until coolant level no longer drops
+ Clean excess coolant from engine.
13. Check cooling system for leaks. Refer to MA-20.
I could not complete the flush and fill. So I took it to the STEALERSHIP. They charged $350 for thermostat and flush/fill. No code upon payment. Not even 24 hrs. later they overheating and the code comes back. The dealer towed the car and now they are saying possible head gasket. Of course none of the symptoms as I have read about. They did say the car was low on fluid. They let the car run for 4.5 hrs. and the light returned with 2 gallons of fluid gone. No leaks from another pressure test. They feel the fluid is being burned off. They can smell it through the exhaust but no milky residue in the oil. The sensors have alrady been changed. So I drove around 2 hrs. the other day before the code came back and engine cut off. Basically I can drive for about 1.5 hours and then have to fill back up with antifreeze. I will get my $$$ back for the bothched diagnosis fro Nissan!!!! Any advise!!!?????
