replaced driver's door now automatic unlock does not work.

Some background, my daughter has a 2001 Maxima SE and she well let's just say she bent the driver's door in a direction it was not intended. I was able to find a color matched door and fender at a local auto salvage. After install the door and fender none of the door controls worked. I realized the wiring harness was somewhat different so I took the wiring harness out of the original door and and put in the 'new' door. However I could not disconnect the wires leading to a white box or remove said box located below the door latch so I cut the two wires and reconnected them in the 'new' door.

Now here's the problem.

Everything works as it should except for the automatic door unlock and the driver's side door unlock button. I can lock the all the doors with the driver's side door lock but can't not unlock them. the passenger side button works fine as it locks and unlocks all doors. When the car is placed in park the you have to manually unlock the door, reached over and press the passenger side unlock button, or press unlock on the key fob.

I tried to reset the system by holding down the button while the key is in the 'on' position and again with the engine running. I also disconnected the battery. None of this fixes the issue. Any ideas would be helpful.

I wish they would make access to the inside of the door a lot easier.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Nissan decided to change things about a milliion times throughout the years and months of the Maxima's production. One of those many changes was the Master switch. They're all a little different. You kind of need to use all the same stuff from the old door, and there's nothing saying the wiring or switches in the old door aren't junk from the impact.

Without having pictures or a better idea of what you did and didn't use from the old door, and what you changed, it's hard to grasp where you're currently at here.

I reused from the original door; the interior door panel, all the door switches located in the door panel, exterior mirror, wiring harness, exterior door handle

Used as part of the new door; window, window motor, all components (various motors and switches) inside the door.

What model, year, manufacture date is the door you used to replace it? Sounds like it's just not compatible. Most likely the Master switch is the biggest part that is incompatible.

The salvage yard said it was from a 2001 Maxima. I used the interior switch panel from the original door. If the master switch is the group of 6 switched that operates the all windows. the window lock, and the power lock, then I used the one from the old door.

Is there a component inside the door that controls the auto unlock feature?

There is no mechanical connection between the key cylinder and the lock mechanism. There is a switch on the on the key lock cylinder in the door. This switch senses that you have turned the key to either lock or unlock the door. The switch on the cylinder sends a signal the the BCM (Body Control Module) and the BCM sends an electrical pulse to a solenoid in the door lock mechanism that is what locks/unlocks the door. Turn the key once and only the driver's door locks/unlocks. Turn the key twice and all doors lock/unlock.

You said that the passenger door switch locks and unlocks all doors? Didn't know that. I'll have to try it.
