Now I dont know why u would want to remove it, it will look hideous without it, trust me, almost 99% of cars without it look hideous.
Unless you have already damaged it by overspray from an engine clean.

It is there for fire protection. If the motor catches fire, the plastic parts melt and the material blankets it/smothers it.
There is a suggestion that if removed the clear coat of the paint will start to come off and tehn the paint. From engine heat.
But it is also said that your engine will be cooler. PLay it safe and leave it alone.

Yeah in a sense you do. It is sort of a Fire protectant material also. And a Heat resistor. Now a great deal but still a little.

IMO if there is a engine fire I don't want to ever drive the car again anyways, so if it's going to burn let it burn!

As for the clear coat, it will not be affected at all. If you look at the heatshield there is a big square hole in the middle of it. If the clear coat was being protected by this shield would'nt the clear coat get screwd up were the square hole is on the heat shield? It would if that was true. Also all the paint under the hood has a clear coating on it and the paint is unaffected by the heat the engine produces.

Are you confusing the hood cover with the under body splash guards?

nah..for some reason, i figured since it's covered with fairly flat surface plastic, it would smooth out the airflow underneath the car..if u didn't have the pieces then the airflow might be affected...i don't know why i said this but i guess i was just thinking of something else...

damn knowing my luck ill lose over half of them
