Do the top bolts on rear shocks back off?

A friend installed rear shocks about six months ago. Something is squeaking in the rear & driving me batsh&^. I brought it into my (good)mechanic and he went over the entire bottom, everything was fine & he greased the bushings w/ wd40. He didn't pull the rear wheel. I was ruling out brakes b/c I hear the sound w/ my foot on the brake. What is weird is the noise is worse when I first start driving, then it gets more quiet.

if you think its the rear struts, manually push up and down hard on your trunk lid so the whole backside bounces. if you hear the noise, its probably to do with the struts

check the backing plate for the rear brakes, if the backing plate is barely touching the rotor, it could make a noise when youre going slow but then get quiet from speed when you go fast

It does lol. They are a pita to get to. If they are fairly new should just tightening them do it? Ty for your quick reply.

doubt it would to be do with tightening, would be more of a clunk then. and you would have to be pretty out of it to leave strut bolts loose

creaking, squeaking, or groaning if you bounce the rear could be the strut mount is bad

I forgot about the mounts & I will pick them up. Any tips on installing them? Thanks for the help.

gotta take the strut out again, use the spring compressor, etc, if youre not comfortable around a spring compressor might be best to get your mechanic to do it

might be worth asking him to listen to the noise and see what he thinks, hard to say without hearing the noise but my best guess is strut mounts

Rear strut mounts almost NEVER go back.

I've probably done about a hundred Maxima suspensions, and I've only ever had to replace a rear strut mount once.

I must have had a brainfart when I didn't order mounts when I bought the shocks. Oh well.

Again, I do not think it is the strut mount.

If it was not 3 degrees & snowing out I would consider taking a ride to you, I am in NYC. Any ideas, brake pads and struts are new. If I bounce the car I hear it squeeking & it sounds like metal grinding/whining at slow speeds.
