Test pipe CEL

If I were to swap my cat out for a test pipe, will it trigger a CEL? ATM, cat forward is still stock (i.e. stock y-pipe and headers/pre cats).

You running one yourself? Just wanna be sure the 4th gen test pipes out there or the 240sx's flanges line up, don't wanna cut the 5th gen ones that are too long.

Any suggestions on test pipes? Make/model, resonated/non, or if that even makes a notable enough difference? (The resonated vs non I mean)

Had a non-resonated Warpspeed test pipe on my 4AT 5.5 gen. No change in sound to speak off, still very quiet. Zero rasp, no SES light.

Anybody out there running the 4th gen megan test pipe? Perfect fit? As I understand the 5th gen one by megan is too long and would have to be cut, but people say the 4th gen fits perfectly. Just want to be sure before I pull the trigger.

I have a Megan test pipe but it's a bit long. The correct one to get is a 240sx test pipe or a fast cat

Or ISIS, although a bit overpriced for what it actually is.

I've used the 4th gen tst pipe on my 5.5 gen, they are backward compatible. For best fitment, the overall length should be 12".

So I've heard, megan only has the length of the 5th gen one on their website, so was looking to make sure the 4th gen fit, thanks.

Not sure if and when they will fix it but it's annoying.

I've had 3 different test pipes and a FastCat, all of them fit. Before all that I had a Megan, and it didn't fit.

What were the brands of the 3 test pipes that fit? Were any "resonated"?

One was LSS exhaust, I believe. Sold it to a 4th gen member and it fit both mine and his vehicles fine.

Got the ISIS 3" for a 240SX, looks resonated but it really isn't, it also fit fine.

The other was a budget I believe, old school, with the rotatable flanges, and it too fit just fine.

And of course as we all know the fastcat fits just fine.

If you're looking to quiet things down some, depending on your exhaust set-up, a small 12" resonated TP isn't going to do the job.

Megan test pipe is too long. 4th or 5th gen doesnt matter. They are interchangeable. Im running cheap ebay headers, test pipe, and turbo muffler. Car sounds great i get compliments all the time. The test pipe seemed to change the pitch but didnt seem any louder.

Well, being that my original 12 year old cat was replaced with a straight pipe , the flow is certainly better and the butt dyno feels a slight difference, though it could just be placebo. As for sound, it is just a hair louder, but that's it. Seems to keep the growl more as the rpm's keep climbing, as opposed to before when the exhaust got noticeably quieter as they went up. I'm also still running stock exhaust mani's and y-pipe so the above mentioned results are all to be expected. (2.5" sr*s cat-back)

Indeed, upgrading to 3" eventually, figured I'd get a head start on the cheapest component. 3" id for a length of ~12" down to 2.5" really shouldn't have any ill effects, the free flow should outweigh the small amount of turbulent air.

As long as you know your creating turbulence and need to match it eventually to get that hp.

how about the pre cats? Can those be gutted w/o a CEL?

If a CEL will present itself, what is the easiest way to shut it off so it won't appear?

I have gutted cats off the manifolds. 2 1/2 back to a dual inlet single outlet magnaflow resonator back to a Flowmaster with a tip. All 2 1/2 pipe. Got rid of the factory y pipe and just ran duals to the resonator. And no codes have been thrown and have had it this way for 40k miles plus.
