Maxima won't start, cam/crank sensor?

My wife's 2001 maxima gle automatic decided to be difficult to start the other day, then shut off while driving home the same day, then was difficult to get started again to get home once it stranded her. I recently replaced the alternator with a remanufactured one. This sounds more like a crank/cam position sensor or possibly the IACV from what I have read on here. The car seemed to start fine for me once she got it home and I charged it up (she did a lot of cranking to get it started). Just wondering what the best way is to diagnose a faulty Crank or cam position sensor or IACV with no check engine light on, I'm assuming there are no stored codes to go by. Thanks in advance guys.

This cold snap we've been having can reak havoc. If you had to give it a good charge take a look at your charging system and test the battery and altenator with a multimeter aswell alot of people here during this cold snap don't think to fill the tank avoiding condensation and add gas line anti freeze. I had an issue with my girlfriends car starting then stalling if the lines are frozen it may just burn off whatever is in the cylinders then stall and being fuel injected cranking and cranking can flood the engine aswell. Wound up having to pull the plugs and fuel pump relay then crank it to dry the cylinders and dry the plugs while they were out then replaced the plugs charge the battery and crank it over. If your not getting any codes and havent had problems starting it before this cold snap i wouldnt think it would be the cps but anythings possibe. Try checking altenator and check your battery under load and see what happens when we get some milder weather which we are supposed to get by fri.

Apparently it has had issues starting in the past, does anybody know how to diagnose which of the three crank/cam position sensors it could be?
