Door panel upholstery mods?

Well I just swapped out my black door handles for chrome and to complete the look I swapped my gunmetal gray trim for wood grain (around door switches and shifter). It looks good and I love it! What I dont love is the gray polka dotted fabric that surrounds the door handle. Anyone done anything to make it look better? Thanks in advance

Check my photobucket for more pics.

Its quite simple, for the shifter panel:
1) open ashtray
2) remove ashtray insert
3) remove philips screw from underneath ashtray insert
4) take a small flathead and place it between the shifter panel and the center console (closest part to cupholder) and pry upward carefully
5) lift the panel up towards the headunit and then pull out. **note that it may be easier to pull the panel out from around the shifter by releasing the shift lock and put it in a gear further from the dash.. MAKE SURE YOUR EBRAKE IS ON

as far as the front door trim:

Well I obtained the (p)leather inserts a few weekends ago and intend on putting them on. Obviously, the tabs wont work so I have to glue them on somehow. My question is what would be the best way to attach the metal backing of the pleather panels to the existing cloth on my door panels?
