Gas leak low MPG

So im a new owner off a 2002 3.5 maxima. I have done some maintenance to it, new head gaskets, new plugs, new belt, new air filter.

The car was running real good until about a day ago.

When i throw $20 bucks in I get about 130miles till i have to fill up from the same spot. Yesterday I threw $20 bucks in and it didnt even last me all day and the same thing today another $20 bucks i have close to an eighth of a tank. the trip says about 50miles i cant see it lasting for more than 30 more miles.

Also before i filled up today i had close to a quarter tank when i parked my car and than about two hours later when i came back the dash was blinking dte---- .

I have not done anything new or drove any differently about 75% highway.

What i have noticed is a gas smell when driving, but when i stop it goes away. Im trying to pin point it but i have no idea. Is there any place that you guys know that are prone to gas leaking or lose gas hoses?

Gas can tend to evaporate fairly quickly. Try to find out where abouts the smell is coming from then investigate. If it seems to be at the front try checking the hoses around the fuel rail. If it smells like its closer to the back try checking around the filler neck to the tank or fuel lines under the car. Or take it to a shop and have them perform a smoke test to find your leak. Is your CEL on? Do you have any evap codes like 0455?

The only code that I had was 1088 i believe for the IVAC. I checked by fuel rail before no smell there. I did find that I have to get a new hose for PVC heard a little whistle from that.

A fuel filter won't do anything for a gas leak, so why are you replacing it?

I hope you also ordered another o-ring to make sure the the fuel tank sending unit has a good seal.

Because of regular maintenance and yes the o-ring is coming with the fuel filter.
