My 2001 wont pass smog CO high at idle throwing P0720

OK, update, smog guy is having a bad day, it is throwing a CEL it is a P0720 so anyone think swapping the speed sensor will cure the high CO at idle?

The guy at the smog place says its the egr system???? OK, any of you guys concur with that? It passes the test at 25 mph but not at 15, the CO reading is about 10% too high to pass at 15 but about 30% below the max at 25 mph?

Thank You!!!!

The guy at the smog place is a :

No, there should be no EGR on an 01. Only 5th gens to have EGR were fed-spec 2000's, Nissan removed EGR for late 2000's and then they all went to cali-spec so no more EGR.

Find a smog guy that knows what he's doing, if he's failing you for emissions he should be able to tell you whats wrong usually. Otherwise get a scanner that reads live data, go for a drive and start looking for **** that looks off.

Thanks for the help. I took another car to the same guy and he failed it on a visual because the intake elbow (rubber boot) had some tape over a spot where it was starting to split, it passed the test but he didnt like the tape.

OK I got it scanned, wow this guy is looking like he really doesnt know what he is doing. The scanner shows it in NOT READY meaning its not displaying a CEL but it also wont pass. It is a P0720 output speed shaft sensor.

That is a weird code, never seen that one, could that be the cause of the high CO at idle???????

thanks again.

I ordered this part # 31935-8E006 If you need one, google search the number. It is a VERY interchangeable part and was quoted from $16-124. I got it via ebay and priority mail it was still only $23. Hope that solves the issue, the car runs really well otherwise.

I do have what I think is a valve cover leak on the back bank passenger side, cant imagine what a ***** that would be to replace? Looks like the intake manifold has to come off???
