5th gen engine sound: video

Hey guys. I've posted about this before. I just got back from a deployment and I'm back at this. Took car to dealer and they told me out sounds normal. It just doesn't to me. Car has 180k miles. Fresh oil change. What do you think? Sound normal? Here is the link to the video

First of all welcome home and Thank You for your service!

Not normal, i can only imagine the salesman back in 2k tryna make that sale with this noise.... The only true way to rule out timing chain components is by tearing down the engine, some folks have spent thousands trying to diagnose or fix the issue.

With that said rod knock is a concern as well, not to mention how the cams sit on the heads, taper piston, sfi.etc etc...

its not rod knock thats for sure. the sound on the video is more exaggerated than it is in real life. the car drives great and has never been low on oil. the sound is more like a tick not a knock. it could be timing chain

I got the same engine and mine has the annoying mack truck sound only under the specified rpm range that many vqs suffer from. But other than that shes sun lit gold

I would check that and if it's not the chain just enjoy the short time you have with it
